Perhaps the finest war film ever made. This may well be the best combination of film and poetry ever made. Telling the story of the battle for Guadalcanal, the film follows several soldiers over the course of the campaign, intercut by flashbacks and poetic musings. At times brutal, at times elegiac, this film captures the essence of war as well as the essence of the human spirit.

Not quite what I remembered it to be as it had been a while since I had viewed last. still it was enjoyable to watch.

A really good movie about a part of WW2 and the "BIG RED ONE". Lots of action, Lee Marvin does a great job.
