This is copyrighted 2011. So why is the book so inaccurate about conditions on Mars? There are ancient buildings in cities connected by roadways? And patches of black fungus, barsoom cactus (good for curing Mars Fever) and vicious skimmers. Having just completed several Poul Anderson stories (featuring van Rijn), I miss any discussion of things like orbital mechanics and navigation. Not this book; we just travel to Mars. Once on planet, PA would explain gravity-vs-mass and atmosphere. Possible life forms would be varied due to the radiation and air composition. Not here. It reads like 1950s juvenile scify.
I would not oppose reading another book by this author, but I will check the reviews first.
Get this book if you're looking for a good old fashion science fiction read. Get this book if you just want to have fun. You won't be disappointed.
