I enjoy reading first-person accounts of real-life adventures, and this was just that. It was a fun, informative book, and I'm in awe that the author could take her two young daughters to live on the water with her and her husband! Occasionally some of the boating terminology went over my head, but I was able to get the gist of it. All in all, I'm just impressed with such a life adventure. Way to go, Katya!

I had the pleasure of working as an editor on this book in its early stages, and it's one of my favorite pieces that I've ever worked on. It's one of those stories that I find myself thinking about, and drawing inspiration from, often. For example: when I was stressed about not having enough room in the 600-sq-foot house I now share with my husband, I thought about how Katya spent a year living in a much smaller boat with her husband and two kids, no less. And when I was in Florida for my honeymoon, I found myself wondering about the lives of the cruisers we saw docked out there. If you like memoir, or nature adventures, or stories about individuals and families figuring out just where they belong in this world, definitely consider checking out this book.

This book is as hard to describe as it was to put down. It is part memoir, part adventure journal, part heartwarming family tale, and part comedy. These elements are all deftly interwoven into a compelling and heart-filled narrative that I didn't want to end. Tucked within these pages are some of Katya's life lessons, family photos, internal musings, and dreams for herself and her family that she is always looking to fulfill. I admire her as a woman, a mother, and an accomplished outdoorsperson, yes, but more than that I admire her as a human being. Get to know her and her family through these stories and you'll see for yourself.

Anyone who ever wanted to set out on a family adventure by boat will enjoy this well-written story of a family's life on the water. From the challenges of raising two adorable young girls on board a sailboat, to the joys of living life in the outdoors and acquiring new skills, this is a book you'll have trouble putting down. The author doesn't sugarcoat the hardships of her family's lifestyle choices. But what comes through on every page is the satisfaction and happiness that comes when you dare to risk living an unconventional life.
