Seems well made. VERY Under-priced!
I have used tis for the last 2 days when the sun was full out. I got 2.something AMPS out of when charging one or two smart devices and a power pack.
The built-in AMMETER is a huge plus on this for me.
At this point, I highly recommend it. I just ordered a second unit !
Please note that the item had a contact info slip in the box. The phone # is disconnected, the Web site they list (BigBlue.com) is not "on" and their email bounced back. It's a good thing that Amazon stands behind this.
If you are considering a 20-something WATT folding solar panel, you definitely should get this none. If you're not very happy with it....Amazon will take it back.
So far, I am very happy with this. If that changes, I'll update this review.
Two suggestions for users: 1) DO NOT use the zipper pocket for your devices. It's a black pocket on a device designed to soak up the sun; as expected, that pocket gets HOT. Putting my small battery pack in the pocket fried it so it now only holds about a 10-15% charge of what it used to. I should have known better, but did it anyway. Put your charging devices under the solar panel or in something else where it's protected from direct sunlight and won't overheat.
2) The output from this is sometimes just not enough to work. For example, even with direct, full sunlight, I couldn't get an older iPad to charge. The best approach, in my opinion, is to use this primarily to charge batteries, then use the batteries to charge other devices. This also protects your non-battery devices from potentially overheating in the sun, as per my first suggestion.
— HOW TO USE —
This is easy to use: just fold it out in a sunny area, make sure all four panels have direct sunlight, connect one or two USB charging cables to it, and you can start charging your devices outdoors. There is an indicator that tells you how much power it's receiving and the higher the number, the better the charge.
— PLACES TO USE —
You can hang this charger on your backpack so devices charge while you're hiking; you can hang it from trees like a hammock; or you could just lay it flat on the ground. As long as there is direct sunlight hitting all four panels, you will get a good charge.
— THINGS TO CONSIDER —
I see this charger as more of a backup charger than a dedicated charger. It's nice to have, but performance will depend on the sun. It's definitely a great tool when you need renewable power.
Also, since your device will be in direct sun and heat, there is a pocket to hide them in. I suggest also covering that area up with an additional layer to keep things cool.
— SUMMARY —
If you're going somewhere remote, it's probably best to have a portable battery, and this solar charger.
It actually works better than my Anker solar panel charger, and this one actually displays the charge rate so you can get an accurate amount of sunlight.
The most sunlight I got in north eastern Texas allowed me to display a 0.5 on the charge, which is what gave me the fastest charge rate. Definitely great for emergencies. I keep it in my car now in case I break down or my car battery dies.
If you do a lot of camping or hiking, this solar panel is a great addition to a camping kit. It has four holes to be able to securely cinch down the solar panel on the back of a backpack with some paracord. It also comes with a zipper pocket to put phone into, not to mention spare cables for charging an extra device.
