Editorial Reviews
Review
This is a great book that covers pretty much all of the State of New York and New England in regards to encounters with Bigfoot/Sasquatch. This book, as well as several other local specific Sasquatch books, covers encounters from a specific region which allows the reader to compare to behavioral differences and similarities from other regions of North America. The book covers historical encounters up to recent encounters and it's amazing to see how close to civilizations some encounters are.
This was a very quick and easy read. If you live in NY or any of the New England states, and/or have an interest in Bigfoot/Sasquatch, you'll likely want this on your shelf. Many of the "sightings" detailed here you will have read about elsewhere, particularly if you are a Bigfoot fan/believer. But it's very nice in this case to have them all listed out in chronological order at the back of the book. All in all, a solid addition to the Bigfoot hunter's bookshelf.

The book chronicles sightings down through the decades right up to modern times. It may seem unusual that an area of the country seemingly so densely populated could have enough wild space for such a creature to hide in but the sightings and footprints would seem to indicate that it does.
What I liked best about the book is that it does not take a "Bigfoot is real and here's why..." approach to the subject. The authors remain largely impartial throughout the first part of the book that relates numerous sightings and confrontations with creatures that appear on the surface at least, to be classic Bigfoot encounters.
The second part of the book might be that best part. The authors go to great length to explain and explore several popular theories regarding the true nature of the phenomenon arriving at a very common sense explanation for what they believe is going on out there. The authors pull no punches in their criticism of the "It's just another undiscovered species simply more elusive than most" excuse many believers use to try and explain why and how such a large creature has remained unverified despite the fact that dozens of people are out looking for it and have been for almost 60 years now. Something more than just dumb luck on the creatures part must be at work here and the authors explore just what that might be.
Whether you're a skeptic a true-believer or like me, fall somewhere in between, this book will familiarize you with a part of the mystery you might not have heard of before or want to know more about if you had. Well written and well documented with numerous photos and an incident by incident chart at the end I highly recommend "Bigfoot Encounters in New York" to anyone who wants to know more about this intriguing and enduring mystery.
Many of the "sightings" detailed here you will have read about elsewhere, particularly if you are a Bigfoot fan/believer. But it's very nice in this case to have them all listed out in chronological order at the back of the book.
All in all, a solid addition to the Bigfoot hunter's bookshelf.
