If you've read any of my other Exercise-DVD reviews, you know that I am a huge "Biggest Loser", "The Firm", "Christy Taylor", and "Ana Brett/Ravi Singh" Fan. I usually give these DVD' 5 stars because I like the structure of the workouts, the instructors enthushiasm, the abilility to customize the workout, the length of the workout, the quality of the workout and/or a combination of these things.

There were a some pros and cons (more cons than pros) with the At Home Challenge DVD:

Pros:
1. There are different levels (Anna and Dolvette instruct the lower levels and Bob the more intermediate levels) so that everyone is able to complete a daily workout.
2. The home viewer is able to customize a workout according to time limitations and fitness level.
3. I like the Level I Cardio and Strength workouts for beginners. I like the fact that hand weights are not required to complete them.

Cons:
1. It seems like there is too much repetition on certain joints (lots of squats, lunges, planks). In our certification classes, we are taught that this much repetition overstresses the joint and may cause injury.
2. The sections seem to repeat each other-the cardio sections have planks, lunges, squats and the strength levels have squats, lunges and planks. Of course the differ, some, but there are plenty of moves where, if you use your imagination, you should be able to have 4 entirely different workouts.
3. The music seems to be there just for sound...none of the instructors works out the to the beat of the music
4. The times on the cover of the DVD are clearly mismarked...if you are planning to complete all 4 levels, it will take closer to an hour than the 40 minutes stated on the cover.

If you are out of shape, over weight, and haven't exercised in a long time I highly recommend this dvd because I love it. It starts you off slow and gradually over a period of time intensifies and lengthens the workouts as the weeks progress if you go by the workout schedule menu on the dvd. You can customize your workouts too if you wish which is also a plus. Especially if there is a workout that you do not like, or are having trouble with. I like this dvd because I don't like to exercise in a gym and I have made a lot of mistakes purchasing workout DVDs in the past due to the hype and then once I start the program I can't get passed the first 20 minutes before I've pulled a muscle and then I don't want to exercise again for weeks. A lot of workout DVDs now are for people who are not couch potatoes and are looking for a more intense workout. If you find yourself to be in that category skip this dvd. But, if you are new to exercising or you've been a couch potato for a while get this dvd before you hurt yourself on a more intense workout dvd that happens to be the flavor of the month. This has been my first Biggest Loser DVD and its great. I have zero complaints.

I got this DVD because over the years I've purchased many work out dvd's to do at home and always ended up frustrated and let down because they were way above my fitness level...even doing the modifications! I love this one because it's still hard but I can actually do it. It helps having heavy set people work out with you too instead of these skinny little things that have probably never had a weight issue in their entire lives. I would definitely recommend this to anyone...fit or not...it's a great work out.
