The Biggest Loser Quick & Easy Cookbook is the first of the series that I have read or purchased, so I cannot compare it to any of the others. If you are in the market for a cookbook that promotes a healthy eating plan rather than a "diet book", this one looks encouraging. The author is promoting a "clean" and healthy eating and exercise routine, eating fresh and natural foods whenever possible.

The author began by confirming what is probably one of the biggest problems people have regarding eating well...the failure to plan ahead and thereby falling into the trap of grab-as-you-go cooking and eating. This is definitely an issue for anyone who works (in or out of the home), has children, or just likes to live an active lifestyle. She goes on to explain how having basic healthy food on hand will help you to make better choices when it comes time to prepare your meals.

Next the book goes on to list and describe those basic ingredients as well as cooking tools and supplies. She mentions brand names when appropriate and some of the recipes the ingredient will be useful for. She also gives helpful suggestions on where to find them.

The Biggest Loser eating plan is covered by discussing calories, serving sizes, healthy fats, product labels, suggestions on understanding levels of hunger, etc.

A 20-minute exercise routine is covered in great detail with thorough descriptions of the proper way to do each exercise and illustrations of people doing each one.

At this point in the book, the recipes begin. I will list just a few examples here so you will have an idea of the types of recipes you will find in this book.

Breakfast: Sausage Feta Pepper Bake, Steak and Egg Breakfast Bowl, Margherita Breakfast Pizza.

I got my Biggest Loser Cookbook a few weeks ago. I opened it up and flip thorugh the first few pages, flipped some more and more and more and more..... where's the recipes?!?!The first 70 pages are about countng calories, measuring food and exercising. That's great information, but the title of the book is "Quick and Easy COOKBOOK." I love the full page color pictures, but when the cook book starts on page 70 and every other page is a full color picture, there aren't many recipes in this cook book after all.

I have to say that I was reluctant to pick up this book for two reasons. First, the world is flooded with cookbooks already, and second, I am not a regular viewer of the TV show. I think it is entertaining and I like the fact that it inspires people to make changes in their health. I have a new appreciation for the contestants after reading Becoming Fearless: My Ongoing Journey of Learning to Trust God.

This book is written by Chef Devin Alexander (a guest star on the show) and It features 75 recipes with 20 minutes of prep time or less. With six chapters of unique recipes for any occasion, the book includes flavorful and filing recipes such as:
- Sausage Feta Pepper Breakfast Bake
- Blanca Arugula Pizza
- Spicy Cayenne Corn on the Cob
- Garlic & Herb Macaroni and Cheese
- Cold Dumpling Salad
- Coffee Crusted Chopped Steak
- Philly Cheese steak Pizza
- Crispy Pesto Cod

And deserts like:
- Chocolate Raspberry Dreamers
- Honey Nut Apple Butter Rice Cakes

Do I have your attention yet? What could be better than tasty dishes with short ingredient lists that do not take all day to make? Each dish has a colored picture to show you the finished result. The book is larger than most, making it easy to read and use. There's also cooking and baking tips, as well as a shopping list to help you stock up with healthy supplies.

What really surprised me was that this is much more than a cook book. The book starts with 20-minute workouts with tips on how to burn the most calories in the least amount of time. Throughout the book, you will find tips from contestants, complete with their pictures.

This book is not what I expected. It does have a few good recipes - but I feel a lot of the book was taken up by the "workouts" - I already have a Biggest Loser Workout Book so this was frustrating to me - I expected there to be a lot more recipes - and more variety - there were two recipes for meatloaf! I liked that it had written out the calories, carbs, etc...but I just wanted more from this product.

I bought this book expecting just recipes. But to my surprise there was a lot of useful information in the start of the book that has to do with shoping, exercising and other tips for a healthy lifestyle. Granted I did not read the discription but it was a nice surprise. Most of the recipes are indeed easy and in fact do taste quite good. Granted some of the ingredants are extremely difficult to find in Vons or Stater-Brothers... but the author discusses how to get around this in the start of the book. Granted it changes the nutri. facts which is bothers me the most.

The Biggest Loser Quick & Easy Cookbook claims to have a wealth of healthy recipes which are quick and easy to make. Simple, yes? Unfortunately while it has gorgeous photos, the recipes by and large are NOT "quick and easy".

First, the basics. This book looks fairly thick - at 224 pages - but the first half of it is exercise and nutrition information. They warn you to stay away from processed and refined sugars as well as high fructose corn syrup. They push whole foods. They suggest you keep a food journal and offer specific exercise ideas. So someone who just wants recipes will have to get past all of that to the recipe section.

Once there, most recipes have a full page photo next to them - further taking up space. Also, with the book being so thick, it won't lay open. You'll need a cookbook stand or heavy weight to keep the book open to the recipe you're working on.

Yes, the photos are pretty. But you can't judge a cookbook on its photos! You have to judge it on how the recipes actually taste when you make them.

So we began with the chili meatloaf recipe. You take some ground beef, add in spices and cheese, make a loaf shape, and cook. It does seem easy - but quick? This takes 17-22 minutes to cook, plus 10 minutes to rest, so from start to finish it's about 50 minutes. That's not quick at all! Even worse, though, even though we cooked it for *24* minutes just to be sure, the inside came out raw. We followed their instructions EXACTLY down to the exact fat level of the meat. Raw results. How was this tested?

On to trying the fried mushroom parmesan bake. They want you to use Almond Mozzarella cheese which literally only one company on the planet makes, and which isn't found in any store near us.
