This is a super sweet high school romance with plenty of comedy and face-palming. Thankfully, St Kevern keeps us (the audience) a bit more in the know than the hapless-but-cute main character, so it's fun to read along seeing just how wacky the misunderstandings are while he's completely clueless. Both main characters, Milo and Taylor, are delightful and the accompanying side characters are well-rounded and add fun to the story.
Exceptionally well written and well edited story of the typical life of high school teens.
Personality development of our main character(and narrator) is incredibly well done and beautifully consistent throughout the book. Side characters, some very prominent, some less so, well described and bubbling with life.
I did feel, however, that the secondary character was a bit bland in comparison, with not much visible/evident personality at all. I think if we had his POV as well, he may have shone brighter, but then the whole wrap of the story would not have worked, so I understand why the author has written him this way. I just think that in an effort to keep him "mysterious" she has robbed him of any trait that endears him to the reader.
The story is wrought with high school politics and intrigue, but told in a delightfully humorous and entertaining way.
USA readers, in particular will identify with the shenanigans, I believe.
A lengthy book to read, but never boring, as it is bursting with activity from start to finish.
Standalone with epilogue, but no apparent HEA as the book just comes to a screeching halt. I would've liked a teeny bit more closure and rounding at the end.
All in all, a really nice book and well worth the read and totally suitable for all ages.
(Absolutely no hanky-panky at all, and no profanity that I can recall!)
Well done on the very appropriate cover!
Milo is a likable protagonist who progresses the story through his resplendent social missteps, over corrections, and general misunderstandings. The situations and internal dialogue are not exactly laugh-out-loud, but will keep a quirky, pleased smile on your face for pages and pages! This author keeps all her promises for high school drama, young romance, teen angst, and a happy ending. With that in mind, the plot is not atypical for the genre, but is very fulfilling for the reader whose been cheering for Milo the whole way. This is feel-good book for the diverse reader. I fully intend on recommending it to my students ASAP.
