As a devoted MC Romance reader, I was thrilled with the quality of work found in this anthology. Yet, for all the great writing to be found here I would recommend purchase just for the scintillating A Road to Nowhere by Bink Cummings. Ms. Cummings is an author whose work I have adored in the past, but in reading A Road to Nowhere I became aware that her past works will pale in comparison to her future endeavors. Ms. Cummings growth and talent as a writer shines in this anthology. A warning though, if you are uncomfortable becoming aroused in a public place I would recommend reading her piece in a more private location. It is HOT!
The amount of enjoyment I got out of reading this anthology was increased exponentially by the fact the proceeds are being donated to BACA. An amazing organization that takes care of one of our most vulnerable populations, children. Thank you to AJ Downey and all the featured authors for contributing your talents and efforts in the support of kids! You rock!!!
Sign of the Gypsy Queen by Eric Plume- This was not a favorite. The visual I had of Kestrel, the h, did not appeal to me at all. And where I understand this antho is about biker chicks, I felt like she was extreme. She wears the pants, as the saying goes, and Jake, the H, did not at all. That's just not something I am used to in a biker book. This is only my opinion. (2 stars)
Sweet Surrender by Sapphire Knight- I really, really liked!! It was more the style of biker book that I enjoy. Lydia, aka Peppermint (<- love the nickname!) was sexy and sassy and independent! She knows what she wants, and isn't afraid to take it. Even when it's from the dark, sexy and troubled Brently/Snake. I'd love to read more on their story! This was the first I have read anything by Sapphire Knight, and I cannot wait to read more. (5 stars!)
Bad Boy by Emma Lee- This book was an OK read for me. This was another that had the more dominant h weaker H. I don't mind the female characters being independent and in your face, I just prefer the male characters to give some of that back. Maybe if I had more of Angelfish and Prescott, was able to see him come out of his shell a little, I would enjoy it more. (3 stars)
A New Night by Rachel Barnard- Didn't do it for me at all. Nanette rescues Sam during an attack and helps him to her motel. She is a very tall woman and doesn't get a lot of action because of her height. Sam is a tall man as well. Yet, there was no action. (2 stars)
Reinventing Holly by Geri Gleen- ....LOVED! Holly makes a decision that changes her life forever! And I was cheering her on the entire way!! No one wants to live in a bad situation with someone who may not even love them. Especially when you question that love. The gift her dad leaves her allows Holly to set off on a new adventure that brings a whole new beginning to her life. One that involves a tall, bearded, tattooed biker named Hulk! *sigh* And the promise of new, true love. I really hope there will be more to Holly and Hulk's story. Geri Glenn is another new author to add to my list!! (5 stars!)
A Road to Nowhere by Bink Cummings. Wow!....HOLY WOW!!! I've read other books by Bink Cummings, and I have to say, this woman just keeps getting better and better with each book. Sexy, sultry, hot, amazing detail that makes you feel like you're right there in the book. And this one will leave you more than hot and bothered! (PSA: You will need to change your panties!) WooWeee! I absolutely love Gwen! She is sweet, sassy, independent and sexy. Nash, Toa and all the brothers are the perfect big, badass bikers I love in a biker book! And although Gwen and Nash's background is taboo, their connection and chemistry is smokin'!! Gwen's sexual preferences may not be for everyone, but oh my are H.O.T.!!! I cannot wait for the full length novel to see where their story goes! (5000 stars!)
Gun Totin' Annie by MariaLisa deMora- This one had my heart wrenching from the beginning. The state Annie finds her sister in is heartbreaking. She's a strong independent woman, but this just about breaks her. Thank goodness Domino, who suffered a great loss of his own, is there to pick her up and make her feel alive, if only for a little while. Very steamy sex, a great plot and very likeable characters. I really hope we get to see more of Annie Oakley and Domino!! MariaLisa deMora is another author I will be sure to read more of!! (5 stars!)
The Wild Hunt by A.J. Downey- This story left me feeling confused. It was not what I could call a typical biker book at all. The characters rode motorcycles, and traveled in a pack, but that's where it ended for me. The whole paranormal/supernatural thing really threw me off. I think there might be a love story between Maebh and Doan, but you don't see any hints to that until the very end. This is another that I just could not get into. (2 stars)
Wanting More by Winter Travers- That title says it all!! I wanted more! A whole lot MORE!!! This was a very sexy, flirty and dirty read that got hot and heavy real quick!! I loved it!! Ricki and Brick have heat that scorches! My only complaint is that it ended too dang quick! LOL! I am new to Winter Travers as well, but I will be looking her up!! (5 stars!)
Taken by Vegas by Liberty Parker- It was good. Ashton and Wasp decide to head to Vegas, where they got married, after attending their daughter's wedding, to renew their vows. There was a lot of detail, and it felt like it took a long time to get to their ceremony. I'll never think of strawberries the same way again, that's for sure! (3 stars)
The Innocent Truth by K. Renee- This book was very good!! I loved the back story. Thea is just trying to right a wrong. But is the wrong really what she thinks it is? Nash is her target, until she finds out he just may be her savior. I really hope K. Renee writes more of their story. (5 stars)
Boy Blue by Bibi Rizer- Another one that didn't do it for me. Desi has a past that she has moved on from, thanks to her husband, Rory. A husband who is caring, and loving, but who's medication makes their love life non-existent. She is happy yet lonely all at the same time. Until she runs into Boy Blue, Jesse. In one night, Jesse helps Desi and Rory connect sexually again. This was a different story. Again, not what I think of as the typical biker book, aside from the fact that Desi rides a motorcycle. (3 stars)
I'd like to make short mention of my favorites and if something is over and above a mark - it'll show up here in this review.
A Road to Nowhere by Bink Cummings: this story bugs me and even days after first reading it I'm back reading it again because it won't leave me alone. I'm left with more questions than answers. Why does Gwen seek out the MC group of men for that once a month meeting where she is literally transformed into a hyperspace of sexual oblivion? She feels shame about a need that drives her that one time every month and yet she is a regular visitor to the same place a few times a week - she's like one of the guys and then a switch is turned on and she's 'hot to trot'. Is she a werewolf of sorts? I don't know, and I want to know why she's doing this, why she's so tortured over it and why her step-brother Nash caters to her need for sexual release to the max. I believe the full length book comes out in December and I'll be getting it for sure. Very well written Ms. Cummings.
Gun Totin' Annie by MariaLisa deMora: I like the premise of two women on a mission for their own MC called 'Gypsy Queens'. Annie is one tough biker bitch and her sister named Coates is clearly in trouble as this story starts out. They're also on their way to meet up with the Rebel Wayfarers MC (a very favorite MC Series that I dearly LOVE). Thing is; they hit a big snag in that the sister Coates gets dead. We also get one hot biker dude named Domino who factors into the story big-time. Annie, for all her toughness becomes pretty soft for said man Domino. I like how they became Nathan and Kat to one another......very nice touch Ms. deMora! There has to be more to this story.....come on fork it over dear authoress. I'm a poor beggin' reader here. Like Oliver I'm saying 'more please'. GREAT little tidbit to what can likely be a fantastic story.
Sign of the Gypsy Queen by Eric Plume: We get a very well written female biker (non MC) who wanders throughout the country gambling. She's alone and likes it. Enter Jake Fletcher who inadvertently adds drama to Kestrel’s (great name, right?) uncomplicated life. Many would flee the drama but Kestrel hangs around for it and embraces it! Really; this is a great story with not too much angst at all but a love that seems to grow from nowhere and ends up…..NOT saying ‘cause you need to read this story! There’s more to this too….isn’t there?
Sweet Surrender by Sapphire Knight: Very cute little story, set in amongst the Oath Keepers MC which Ms. Knight has many in a series about. I read one so far and liked it so I’m not real ‘up’ on the Oath Keepers MC. The story is good though……not romance and flowers kind of sweet but a certain kind of sexy and HOT.
A New Night by Rachel Barnard: We get a 6 foot – 3 inch amazon woman named Nanette. Carrot haired and very much a loner save for her best friend and bike named ‘Cheddar’. She’s definitely an oddity and doesn’t care who knows it. She’s tough and always packin’! She ends up saving a man……a very hunky man. Things progress from there and darned if the story didn’t end before I was ready for it to!!! More please….this reader isn’t afraid to beg. Thanks for a great tale Ms. Barnard. I quite enjoyed it.
Reinventing Holly by Geri Glenn: This story packs a wallop. Starts out with a very unhappily married woman who has been verbally abused and bossed-around until she can’t even recognize herself anymore. I hated that husband of hers. We’ll; fate shines down on her in a way that enables her to find a long lost dream and in the process she dumps the life, the lousy hubby, a boring car, and lots of bad memories. What she finds is happiness, contentment, and one hot biker man named Hulk. Does she reinvent herself……in a way…..yes. I think in the most important way she finds herself. There has to be more to this coupling. She and Hulk are going places and this reader needs to be a voyeur as to what happens next! Again, I say……more please.
All for now……if I didn’t mention a story doesn’t mean I didn’t like it. I loved them all. This whole collection is wonderful and entertaining reading. Thank you everyone for contributing you creative renderings to BIKER CHICKS 2.
