The success of this series results from the fact that Aloha Lagoon is a tourist destination that requires almost an unlimited supply of people and businesses to run smoothly. This episode, while featuring the Happy Hula Dress Shop, also incorporates other places in the resort and past characters met in previous books. While the reader has a feeling of familiarity with the general location, each book introduces new characters and situations.
The Aloha Lagoon is clearly a place readers would love to visit in person. The stories are filled with mystery, native food, a beautiful setting, and romance. The perfect combination for a vacation, even if only taken in your mind. Don't miss the latest installment with murder and mayhem and a twist that leaves you shocked!
The idea behind this series is a Hawaiian resort, Aloha Lagoon, with different authors writing cozy mysteries, with different "detectives".
Aloha Lagoon's real police detective, Ray, must be sick and tired of all these young women, some incredibly silly, intruding on his investigations.
The books all have clever covers and titles, but...
This leads to a very uneven series. The very best, which are very good, are the two by Leslie Langtry re Noni the resort's ukulele player.
While not the worst, Bikinis and Bloodshed is really juvenile and annoying, with silly romance and mean girl interactions.
The heroine is superficial and not very likeable, and the murderer whom she eventually unmasks was obvious from the start.
Having read the first eight books I think I will stick to other titles by Lantry and give the rest a pass.
This is a awesome book in my opinion. It has a great mystery, romance and humor. I hope too see more from this great cast of characters in the future. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good cozy mystery that will keep you guessing who did it until the end.
Will Kayle be able to help her aunt and start a new love life?
