What I really liked:
*The beginning was great. Rich guy born into money, seems to have the midas touch, total alpha, thinks homelessness is a choice and gets a bit of reality slammed into him.
*His relationship with his brother. I love family bonds
*The ending was good. It left you wondering what was going to happen next, and the characters were interesting enough to have you invested
*A look into homelessness, which people should really be aware of since those numbers are record high. I volunteer a lot of those kinds of places and if more people did, I think the world could improve because more people would give. It is not a choice for everyone.
*It was edited very well, the author took a lot of pride in her work.
What I didn't like
*The best friends hook up, it was way way to fast and not even kind of realistic. I know some romances are fast and easy, but true love in 6 hours is only possible for teens.
*They were in love with each other too quickly. I know theres a time line for the book because of the bet but still it always bothers me when someone is in love within days.
*He started as a total alpha male, my favorite type, and then changed. I know he was growing, but he is a very successful businessman and he gets to insecure and worried about halfway through, worried about his cars and what she would think, and his apartment, and his money. He is confident, which is what is attractive about him. He doesn't have to be an butt, but he should always have total and complete confidence in his decisions and about his things.
*I would have liked to see him volunteer more and really understand how wrong his perception was in the beginning, because he was a real butt to the homeless guy in the beginning, do more than just give 20 bucks and be on his way.
*My biggest issue with the book was all the swearing. I don't know if the author is listing it as romance or erotic, which would make a difference, but there was far to much swearing. It was a big let down. I don't like reading it at all in any book, but I know if I pick up a horror it is most likely going to be there. I don't like it in a romance.
So all in all I think it is worth a purchase and I think the author is gifted and will do some great things. I will keep my eye out for other works, but was a bit disapointed because this book was unique and I loved the idea of it.
With such a good start - what could go wrong, everything else. "Spoilers Alert!!" The homeless gig didn't last past the second day. He had problems with the usualy bad guys and one of his board members also hated him - I wonder why. He met Alissa and she was his dream come true instantly, of course she was totally clueless on who he was. She let him come into her apartment, let him use her shower, washed his clothes and fed him breakfast (she's a chef).
This was just too improbable, I would have settled for a lesson learned and even that was hopeless, the only thing he learned was that it was hard to be homeless and maybe he should give something back - I think it was $20 bucks.
The author must be a really nice lady, who thinks that all upwardly mobile people curse, profanity was scattered throughout the book in really akward places. The sex scenes immediately reverted to porn comments. I'm pretty sure people have sex without using the F-bomb.
Jackson's brother sets a private detective on him to keep him safe -- bet already broken as Jackson gets help within the first 24 hours from the detective.
After meeting the heroine, Jackson quickly falls in love, and the story is still going along well UNTIL, the heroine's best friend recognizes our hero. Less than a week after the start of the bet, Jackson is back home again with the love of his life. Throw in a fast new man for the heroine's best friend and this is supposedly Jackson's new world.
Throw in some fast sex scenes to make this a romance and then fast-forward to a year later. Same old Jackson, trips over the same bum, thinks that by giving him $20, he has done what he should and back in the same bar, another $50,000 bet between the brothers. Nothing learned. A waste of $0.99.
Aside from all of that, it was a quick and fun read. If you can look past all of the flaws it can be seen as a light and cute romance. I suggest kicking up your feet for a couple hours of mindless entertainment.
