For me this book is a little on the long side. A handful of chapters could have been edited out without affecting the plot line whatsoever. I think if that happened I would not have come to dislike Chloe and Rick so much. And, would not feel so worn out by Archer and Zoe's yoyo relationship. I am happy with their HEA. I also liked Mona's keeping it real attitude.
I did love Zoe's Bakery Shop. There's always good dialogue going on there, just like in real life. But now the downside of it:
"Chloe poured the cherries into the mixer and grabbed a bag of cocoa power out from underneath the sink".
Yeah, I don't know where the author lives, but here in this state the Health Dept would never allow a bakery to keep edible ingredients with hazardous materials which is what's usually kept under the sink. Tsk. Tsk. What no pantry?!
Nitpicking aside, I do recommend this book. Enjoy!
(Note: I was provided an Advanced Review Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
Zoe had always wanted to own her own bakery and worked hard to make it successful. Her friend encouraged her to go out and have fun. Archer’s friend also was encouraging him to have a night out and relax. The two of them meet and are drawn to each other, but Archer is afraid to let her know about his sons. When Zoe is accosted by a strange man who had taken an interest in her and started following her around, Archer came to her rescue. Why doesn’t Archer want to tell Zoe about his children? What is the secret? And who is this stalker who is so focused on Zoe? Is she in danger?
This was a strange book for me because I didn’t always know whether I liked the characters or not. At times they were very juvenile and annoying. At other times, I was cheering them on. But the story line was good, and the stalker’s presence kept the suspense that the reader needed to stay engaged in the story. Grab a copy of the book and find out how things work out for everyone! I was given a copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it. My comments reflect my honest opinion.
Zoe was... I don't still know if I liked her or wanted to pull her aside and shake her. She allows a crazed homeless man to basically stalk and threaten anyone around her, she doesn't demand any apology after Archer treats her horribly, repeatedly going back...good shaking needed.
Despite my personal misgivings, these characters had some truly loving and beautiful moments that made me want to know more. Mona, the twins nanny, was a riot as a supporting character! And the love jumps of the pages that Archer, and later Zoe, has for three twins Abel and Andrew! One of the best moments to show that Archer is a human with a heart, is when one of the boys gets a fever. His reaction is spot on to how every first time parent reacts (minus the transportation choice).
So although this wasn't my favorite Claire Adams book, this was still an engaging story about two dedicated people who find love, even when they were only looking for a hook up. Little bit of suspense, some humor, great supporting characters, and lots of love sprinkled in. This is my honest review of a voluntarily read ARC.
