Billy Idol's secret is one that he shares with, of all people, Trent Reznor--the ability to take a pop base and disguise it with layers of other genres, most notably hard rock. His adaptability is on display throughout this 16-song career retrospective. It's amazing just how well the former Generation X frontman's songs have aged. Songs such as the disco-punk hit "Dancing with Myself," "White Wedding," and "Cradle of Love" are as appealing as ever, as is even "Shock to the System," just about the only listenable thing from 1993's Cyberpunk, an object lesson on the inadvisability of jumping blindly on a bandwagon. Fleshing out this best-of is a newly recorded cover of Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me)," as well as a live, acoustic version of "Rebel Yell," and a few other choice rarities. --Genevieve Williams

But what can I say it's Billy Idol. I bought this specifically for the song Rebel Yell and when I go out in my Cadillac that has a fabulous sound system I blast really loud going down the road and I don't care who hears it. When people look they see this old lady car dancing and rocking out in her car. I am a long time music lover and I play classical piano so I really enjoy listening to this album and zoning in on the instruments being play expertly by the musicians in his band. WOW wait until you hear them, the quality of this CD is very good and it has most of his iconic songs on it. Worth a buy, get it ROCK ON.

Includes the hits, like 'Rebel Yell', 'White Wedding', 'Dancing with myself', 'Eyes without a face', plus his remakes of 'Mony Mony', 'LA Woman' and 'Don't You (forget about me)'. It also includes the foot stomping 'Cradle of Love', recorded for Andrew Dice Clay's 'Ford Fairlane: Rock & Roll Detective'. Billy Idol might just be the most underappreciated enigma in Rock History. His music helped to define an era that was looking for definition.

I love these older Billy Idol tunes just to listen to and dance to like there's no tomorrow. Billy gives so much of his own energy, wow, volume, and power that you can't help but dance till you drop. And yes that's a very good thing. "Rock the Cradle of Love." I have owned this on LP, CD, and if I'm correct used to have White Wedding on Cassette. Now here mp3 and CD. Yes I enjoy listening to Billy. Would like to hear him live one day.

For a 'budget' best of this packs a punch. Not only does it focus on the cream of Billy's ouput, but also includes a Simple Mind's cover version that was made for him (ie it sounds great). The real plus on this disc is the mastering, which is sympathetic yet crisp and punchy. I am a casual Idol fan to be honest, remembering the classics "Eyes Without A Face", "Rebel Yell" (both here is full length) and "White Wedding", but the rest of the stuff is good too.
