Awesome book by Jon Brett! It gives you more of a perspective look in to the essence of the man Billy Joel! It’s not glorifying his persona but detailing his not so good points and very good points of being the idol to many fans. I read this book because I’m in a BJ fb group where he’s a member (Jon) and got an interest in him telling the story as an Innocent fan! He visits Oyster Bay among other locations and is from the UK and had the pleasure of meeting billy with his wife in the U.K. a chance meeting and then again in Oyster Bay at his bike shop! I won’t give too many stories because I want you to buy his book but he interviews many people from old members of his band to current members and gets a tour from a taxi driver that he and Sharon his wife just so happens to wind up in his cab and go on an adventure you can’t imagine to locations everyone would get a thrill to go on! Get this book and savor the moments and he has some fans with their experiences at end of the book! Loved it and will look forward to any book he writes in the near future as his journey telling Billy Joel’s stories is far from over!

I would sit in my bedroom and write all the words to all his songs (which I knew all of by heart) on fancy hand painted paper while I played his songs over, and over and over. That being said I am a big fan of Billy Joel and coming from Long Island this book is a real treat with a ton of history and facts that I never knew. The author Jon Brett interviewed many of the musicians and got stories from them that make the book so interesting to read. I love the English wit and I really laughed when he told of his story of seeing Billy in Manchester, England. You would have to be a true fan to go though that experience. I give this book 5 stars as this is a book from a fans point of view with such amazing details and interviews of the musicians that were all part of Billy Joel's band at one time or the other.

Read the book in a day it was great and had a lot about the fans as well - some of them I know , Coolest part was about some dude Howard who actually got up on stage and played the piano while Billy sang one time ! He’s seen him close to around 100 times which I think is bizarre and excessive but oh well to each his own - I think I’ve actually seen him in 109 at several of the msg shows
Anyway there were SUPERB write ups on ex band members rhys Clark and Larry Russell as well as nice write ups on Tommy Byrnes and fellow musicians David Clark and Elio Pace

I became aware of this book when a flyer was pressed into my hand on the way into Billys' concert at Wembley in June. I spoke to other Billy Joel fans at and after the concert and was advised those who had read it that I should also do so. They were right and I am grateful to them and of Jon Brett. Like him, a life long can of Billy this book proved beyond doubt for me that his songs speak to people, they way they speak to me. We all have our favourite and that's great. The interviews with band members past and present were informative without being salacious. The anecdotes of Jon and his wife as fans travelling to Billys home town Tec were humorous and self deprecating. The book also confirmed my impression of the British Billy - Eliot Pace as. Being an altogether great bloke too. Incidentally Elio and his band give a fantastic performance of Billys' music, if you haven't yet, seek them out. I finished the book in 2 sessions, engrossed as I was and have subsequently re-read it and enjoyed it all over again. Though I have not met Billy in person, this book does allow the reader some kind of vicarious experience through the experience of the author.
