I have a son with ADHD and my wife and I have read many of the medical books on what the "experts" say to expect, how to deal with certain situations, blah, blah, blah....
NONE and I mean NONE of the books we read gave us a REAL WORLD PERSPECTIVE the way "Billy's never-ending Battle" did. As I read through the various phases of Billy's life, I could easily imagine that I was reading about my son. A perfect example is when Billy explains why he lied for no reason when in school. My wife and I seem to have a never ending struggle with my son lying, and while reading Billy's book, the simple truth was right there in front of us--he is attempting to divert attention from the fact that he doesn't know the answer and feels inadequate.
One word of warning though--if you have a child with ADHD, read this book in private because your eyes will swell with tears (numerous times) as Billy sheds light on the "what" and "why" your child may be struggling at every turn in the road.
I am incredibly grateful to Jor-El and Lara for sending Billy (AKA Kal-El/Superman) into our lives--he truly is a superhero. [The last sentence will become clear after you read the book]
