Bioshock Infinite is a pretty straightforward game. One that makes it difficult for the player to get lost, and also doesn't opt to punish the player too harshly when he or she fails. As a result it can feel a little strange to even think you'd need a strategy guide to such a game. And fair enough you probably don't. If, however, you find yourself stuck for any reason this is actually a decent guide. It's also decent because it truly helps to supplement the game.

The guide begins with a forward from Kevin Levine. He tells about how much he particularly loves strategy guides. Particularly for things such as developer commentary and sometimes having some really in depth knowledge of the game. Bradygames is no Future Press, Piggyback Interactive or early Versus Books. And from time to time I've been unusually frustrated with their guides, but I was not disappointed with this one. Kevin Levine has a nice forward that welcomes you to Bioshock Infinite and the Strategy Guide. A forward that reminds us that sometimes having a strategy guide isn't always about getting random "tips." It's okay to enjoy a strategy guide for the artwork, screenshots, diagrams and developer interviews, if they're included.

The guide quickly jumps into all the basics of the game. From the basic controls and movements to talking about all the gear and vigors. All these things are explained in great detail in the game itself, but there's nothing wrong with having a reference tool right beside you as well. Likewise, it provides some pretty good strategies on how to use vigors or how to develope and utilize your gear. All this stuff at the beginning is great.

Brady Guides are generally good anyway, but this one is especially great. The walkthrough is essentially spoiler free, and you can really pinpoint what you need to know if it's a detail ("Which of these infusions should I probably buy?"). But even if you don't want hints, it's well worth the money for the presentation of weapons and vigors. Much better than the little booklet that comes with the game.

Finally, this thing is GORGEOUS - incredibly high production values. Heavy glossy paper, good printing, fabulous illustrations. The layout makes it easy to use. You'll learn some stuff about the world of Columbia you would not learn otherwise. I was going to just browse when it came in, and ended up reading for a couple of hours.

What can I say, your path is clear: get your hands on this one.

Let me say im really glad i got this for free (gamestop: songbird edition + season pass = free strategy guide)

The guide is missing 4 voxophone locations and I think 3 kinetescope locations.

As I went through the guide, I put "x"'s by the voxophones/kinestescopes/telescopes (V/K/T) to make sure I got them all. According to the strategy guide, I did. No achievements. Found a walkthrough online and realized the guide was missing a bunch the V/K/T's. Finally got the achievement.

Cool pictures. Terrible if you want 100% completion/achievements

On a whim, I purchased this at the same time as I bought Bioshock Infinite. I pretty much ignored the book the first time through...the way it's put together doesn't lend itself to being a quick tutorial. On my second pass through the game, I kept the book close by and used it as a guide to finding infusions and other goodies and general advice on the game. A lot of the game advice is of limited use: once you get into a battle with the foes of Columbia, you tend to do what you need to do and the heck with what the book says.

The books is very colorful and the pages are thick and glossy. I do wish there was an index of sorts and the maps aren't always done as well as they could be. For example, the maps show the locations of some items without finding a way of noting that you can't actually access the location until you've gone to other locales first. The strategy for the final deck battle -- where I *could* have used a hint the first time through -- is useless.

If you are the type to play a game once and move on, you probably have little interest in the book. If you like doing a lot of exploring and collecting, I think it's worth the money. I am 85% happy with the book.

Great production value, but I found it a little disjointed at times (for example, enemy descriptions are scattered about near the end of the book, not in any particular order). As others have said, there are omissions but naturally the book had to be printed before the game went gold so this is understandable. Most of the omissions have to do with the number of available voxophones and kinetoscopes.

Overall a worthwhile purchase.

Bought the game and found some snags. Ordered the book and found out some things about the clothing and money that I did not know. Started the game over. The book has helped me out of some hard to figure out spots. With these type of games a handheld book helps a lot.

There are several different reasons you might want to buy a strategy guide. If you love the game and want to have a good quality book that loves it too, and wants to show you gorgeous artwork, you should definitely buy this book. If you want a walkthrough with some strategy and ideas about more advanced use of vigors and weapons, and maybe some maps (since there are none in the game!), then you should buy this book. If, however, you want a step-by-step walkthrough with pinpoint accuracy and the delineation of every item for every trophy, this is probably not enough for you, and you'd be better served using an online walkthrough.

The pictures are beautiful, and every segment of the game is addressed, but reviewers seem to agree that not all objects are listed, nor is information given about chronology. There is good information here about weaponry and damage, etc. but this isn't meaty enough for a hardcore player.
