Product Description

Biofreeze pain relieving gel applied from a tube or pump bottle affords the doctor the opportunity to create a more thorough application by massaging the effected area during application. through massage the patient benefits from an increased blood flow and warming of the region at the cellular level for better absorption of the biofreeze pain relieving gel. this hand on application also reinforces patient touch which has been shown to be very important in the healing cycle. if the health care professional is working a joint area this allows for working with rom movement during application.

[ REVIEW & INGREDIENTS LIST UPDATED: JULY 2014 ]

I have a rheumatic condition and a pinched nerve on my neck causing carpal tunnel/median nerve/ulnar nerve pain, shoulder pain and joint pain/arthritis. I went ahead and bought the best selling products in the pain relief category along with cold pads, warm pads, a new mouse, computer gloves, a traction device + pillow, and supplements; each of them carefully researched. I've been using them on a daily basis for a little over a year now. If anyone's interested, I will keep the review updated with my progress.

Update: Months after I wrote this review I also tried Topricin so I'm updating the review to include it in the list since it has a different (homeopathic) approach on pain relief.

List of INGREDIENTS as of July 2014

PENETREX:
Note: The ingredients list has been updated. No more Parabens! (Thank you, Biomax!)

Updated: taken from the labels of what I purchased here and what I purchased at my doctor's office:

Ingredients of Biofreeze from my doctor's office: Menthol 4.0%, aloe Barbadensis leaf extract, arnica Montana flower extract, arctium lappa root (burdock) extract, boswellia carteri resin extract, calendula officinalis extract, carbomer, camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, camphor usp, glycerin, ilex paraguariensis leaf extract, isopropyl alcohol, isopropyl myristate, Melissa officinalis (lemon balm) leaf extract, silicon dioxide, tocopheryl (vitamin E) acetate, triethanolamine, purified water usp, blue 1, yellow 5.

I hope this helps someone.

I do not agree with the overly praising reviews here...
It's not to bad but not strong enough...
Guess if you are just a bit sore it could be ok but if you have some more severe pain, say in your joints, it doesn't really do much.
I've tried loads of herbal and other stuff over the years, mainly on my knees but also on my lower back and there is some good stuff out there...
I like Flexall Super Strength(similar price..) much better...
Flexall has 16% Menthol while this here only 3.5%.
It also wears off after 15 minutes while Flexall lasts much longer..
"ZEN spray" (all natural..) is also quite good and in any regard better than this.
Or "Traumeel"-that's the best anyway..
I don't like the (artificial) colour and the strong alcoholic smell...
In the end everybody must find what works best for them...

I am quite disappointed with the items I received. The BIOFREEZE gel is much less effective than the product I purchase from my hospital pharmacy. Upon realizing this, I compared the ingredients. I discovered that the Active Ingredient was less and the second inactive ingredient on the pharmacy product was MISSING COMPLETELY! (Arnica Montana Extract Flower)
I specifically want the arnica ingredient because I believe it makes my relief last longer. I will not purchase this inferior product again from Amazon.

Nothing is going to totally get rid of my pain, but Biofreeze helps a great deal.
Sometimes when pain wakes me, I use this stuff and I can get back to sleep. I am pushing 80, and I don't expect miracles.

It seems to work so-so for me. I have bad pain in my ankles and sometimes moderate pain in my neck. The tiger balm ointment I bought at the same time seems to work much better for me. I will keep this item but not sure if I would re-order.

Wow I had used Icy Hot for years after back surgery left lifetime soreness and extreme pain if I do too much, and while Icy Hot was okay for a short period of time--enough so I could get to sleep--the smell never went away and it didn't work too long if I used it during the day and needed to still walk around.

My son's physical therapist used this after he had permanent nerve damage to a leg that was broken and had to be put together with screws. My son tried the Icy Hot and it burned his damaged nerves so badly that he was close to tears.

So I got him some Biofreeze and since it was a two pack I kept one for myself. What a miracle pain reliever! I was absolutely shocked at the difference between this and Icy Hot. The Biofreeze eliminated all pain for a long time! Wish I had known about Biofreeze years ago.

A little Biofreeze goes a long way and the odor goes away after say 10 minutes. Biofreeze supposedly contains an ingredient that Icy Hot does not that makes the smell go away quickly. It is basically a menthol like smell, nothing horrible, just strong.

I like the texture of the Biofreeze too. More like a true gel. The Icy Hot was creamy and messy.

Biofreeze supposedly has a special ingredient to make it gentle on skin and nerves, which is why my son was able to use this and not Icy Hot.

I was so glad to find that Amazon sells Biofreeze! It is not available in any stores, pharmacies or even special surgical and medical supply stores anywhere near me. Apparently local physical therapists use it but don't sell it to the public.

I never thought this kind of virtually immediate pain relief existed. I would highly recommend this!
