Editorial Reviews

For two decades, he was America's #1 source of information, a comforting, trusted figure who led the nation through great and small events with insight and class. He remains an icon whose place will never be taken by another TV journalist.Walter Cronkite and the American public forged an unbreakable bond during the days and hours following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. When the unshakable anchorman allowed his emotions to show as he told the nation of its loss, everyone watching was moved. It remains one of the defining moments in the history of broadcast journalism. But it was far from the only such moment in Cronkite's illustrious career. Through extensive clips from the CBS News Archives and interviews with those who worked with him and shared his life off-camera, BIOGRAPHY® profiles a legend. See how he cut his teeth covering World War II for the UP and follow his rise to the most coveted job at CBS, anchoring the Evening News. Eventually, his influence was such that when he denounced the war in Vietnam, President Johnson chose not to seek re-election! From his childhood in Missouri to his final broadcast, follow the life and career of "the most trusted man in America."
