I try to make it a point to read all the books I can find about bipolar disorder. I was diagnosed 7 years ago as type 2. Its something you can never stop learning about. So when this book came out I checked it out at the library. I have since purchased it I like it so much. It offers everything anyone who was or knows someone who was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder could ever hope to know as of now. It has all the basics and then goes into more specifics. It offers great resources to continue your education on the subject and help make a life of living with bipolar disorder so much easier.

An excellent book on the practical aspects of day-to-day coping with bipolar disorder. This book is a good choice on first hearing of the diagnosis. The advice comes first hand as Dr. White herself learned to cope with bipolar disorder. It covers the fundamental issues of getting treatment, taking medication, identifying triggers, reducing stress, getting good sleep and more. I am particularly pleased to see education emphasized along with medication and psychotherapy as one of the "three strategies of treatment." We have come a long way since the dark ages of mental illness. Books like this help us to continue that progress.

This book is a must-have for anyone dealing with anyone diagnosed with this disorder. I read it in 2 days and got a lot out of it. I gave it to my family members to read also. It's written by a Social worker/therapist who not only deals with patients but suffers from the disorder as well.

I am a counselor always looking for new bi-polar books with basic info for cliets diagnosed bi-polar. Especially a good guide to one recently diaignosed. It's hard to find an easy read, not too bulky book on such mood disorders. I recommend it to clients and often structure our first few sessions around it. You can never, ever have too much on bi-polar disorder.

I bought this as an Ebook and it has everything you could ask for in a book about bipolar, in an educated but layman's format so its easy to understand. I'm still reading, but highly recommend the content of this particular book.

I gave it 3 stars and would give it 5 stars if it had a lot more to offer to people at different stages in bipolar disorder. Its pretty small, but I would only recommend this book to someone who has NO access to therapy or anything, or is newly diagnosed. The reason I say that is because a lot of this stuff I thought was common sense like making sure to eat properly, tracking your foods, and making sure to drink enough water. I've been diagnosed for about a year now, and I do have access to therapy now and a good psychiatrist so i'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Again, If I was a person who was newly diagnosed, had no support system and no clue what bipolar disorder was or how to manage it or anything at all, I would HIGHLY recommend this book. Or if I was a single parent who had a newly diagnosed kid, I would get this book. But for people who need more of an in depth kind of guidance, I probably would get something else.
