As a chemist, over a decade ago I drafted a book on the chemical elements in love, life and literature (that elemental list having since expanded) and it almost made it to publication but the fifth rejection claimed the internet had now made such collections in book format somewhat redundant, so Tilley Hats off to the author and the publisher for this stunning book despite the power of the web.
A book perhaps to dip into rather than read cover-to-cover. As I gradually add, bird by bird to my ‘lifer’s list’, Peter Barry’s collection will put the icing on the cake. Nice one! More stars than a starling in winter...
