Worth the Splurge! Watch the Metallic Leather!

Birkenstocks never disappoint! I wear a ladies’ size 7 and I now have three pairs of sandals in 38, they fit me perfectly. (I have narrow feet, so I did purchase the 38 narrow size.) These copper colored Arizonas are gorgeous and were definitely worth the splurge. My only advice is that if you get them make sure you know how you want them to fit… snug or on the looser side. They will stretch and the buckles will leave a mark on the leather. I wish I had kept the straps tighter and had let them stretch. At first I thought I had them too tight so I wore them looser. They got too loose for my liking and when made them tighter, I noticed the buckles had already marked the leather and now I can’t do anything about it.

Don't buy birkenstocks on amazon!

First of all Birkenstocks no longer sells through amazon. With that said I have been wearing birkenstocks for 25 years. I fell in love with them in high school and never stopped loving them. Then they started doing the soft bed and my love grew so much stronger. Like walking on a pillow.

Which is why I was stumped when I received these. Yes, they look like birkenstocks. But they just don't fit like them. I paid $30 extra for those soft beds. Except these were not soft. They were also more dry than other birkenstocks. It prevented them from properly molding to my foot. I have 4 other pairs that do not have the soft bed but after a week of wear are a perfect fit. Not so with these. In fact, my back started reacting to the stress of standing on them after 30 minute intervals. I bought them to help my foot health and they just made it bad.

I kept telling myself it was in my head. I went shopping last weekend at a comfort shoe store. Just for kicks I tried on some soft bed birkenstocks. It was like walking on clouds. I was reminded why I love birkenstocks. The shoe that was sold to me on amazon is not a birkenstock. It is not a soft bed. I feel that I have been scammed with this product and I hope that Amazon stops selling products that have no integrity.

Extremely disappointed in this purchase.

Here's why: There is thick plastic stitching protruding from the place where the strap meets the sole. These are like actual medical stitches—hard stiff and stitched individually. With stiff ends that stick out just along the seam. Imagine every time you wear the sandals that you searched out on Amazon that about 20 vicious and unrelenting needles poke into the soft part of your arch. You tell me. Does that sound like Birkenstock's definition of comfort? Do you enjoy blood coming out of your arches? Do you want to be tortured with every single step? Is it possible those reviews I read that said these aren't really Birks and that people were being fooled were right after all?

Okay, I thought as I wiped the blood off and wrapped my foot in gauze. I can fix these. So I tried to cover these seams with bandaids and moleskins. No dice--they poke through anyway. I have tried sanding them down with a nail file. Nope. Doesn't work. I'm starting to look for flexible caulk. Seriously. WTF right? Is that what it takes to get a decent pair of sandals?

I couldn't find these in my local store, so I bought them here. Dumb. Dumd. Dumb. Now I seriously doubt these are real Birks. I look at them and I am sick. I have been wearing Birkenstocks for decades and I have never had an issue like this. Just awful. Avoid. Really.

I know there are a lot of fake Birkenstock’s out there, and I was apprehensive about getting these. I did a lot of research before taking a chance. They ARE the real thing. I have had a lot of Birkenstock’s in my day, all of them bought in a store or on their official website. This time I had a gift card for Amazon, so I was determined to use it.
I only wear Birkenstocks (I live in Texas where it’s hot or warm pretty much all year), so I am obviously a fan. They are prizey, but worth the money, I think. I wear mine all day, every day and they last me 1-2 years. Quality product.
As usual, they have to be worn in, and they become softer and more comfortable the more you wear them. They are hard when they first arrive, but wear them around the house the first week or two, and you’ll be good.
The pictures are after I wore them for about two weeks.
They shipped from Leipzig, Germany and arrived with DHL, after just 2 days. I was very pleasantly surprised since they weren’t supposed to arrive for another month!
I did read somewhere that Birkenstock will only sell their shoes through Amazon until April 2019, so be aware of that.

Dyed Feet & Bald Spots after 1 month #waste

Let me start by saying that I LOVE birkenstocks and own several pairs in a few different styles. I was truly excited for these to extend my season. I put them on and I was in heaven!! I sure did have a surprise on my feet later that night when they were stained/dyed black. I scrubbed with a pumice block and still couldn't get it all off.(Pic is after scrubbing) A 3 year old told me my feet were dirty and I needed a bath, I was embarrassed in my pedicure, and my husband asked what "those feet" were doing on on our duvet!! 😳The shoes were so comfy I decided to keep them anyway against my better judgment. I figured it was because they were new and it would be done. Nope. I was wrong. Dye ruined my pedicure too when the fur touched light nail polish. I also have bald spots where there is now no fur. What is underneath the fur is very unpleasant to the foot. It's like a sticky pleather, my foot catches on it, and it makes an annoying noise. They of course showed their true colors 3 days AFTER the return policy. I'm not pleased with $140 shoes that last 33 days/4 wears. Not cool Birk. Save your money.

Ripping Leather & Scratched/Tarnished Buckles

This shoe was and still is superbly comfortable. I couldn’t believe the cushioned support from a cork footbed “flip flop” style sandal. The shoes go with everything and the color is the main attraction. However, after only wearing them August, September and part of October, the shoe is beat-up! They look as though I have had them for years and wore them through rugged terrain. They were only worn on grass, pavement or indoors. The leather is scratched, ripping or actually looks more like peeling and the buckle is scratched and tarnish. I will no longer wear them other than around the house or to do messy outside work. They are actually embarrassing when on my feet and look old, beat down and dirty. For the brand and price tag, I expected to get a lot of use out of these. Hoping Amazon will stand behind the product they sell; as it was Prime, and either replace or reimburse.

These shoes should be allowed to pass as Birkenstocks. Just by looking at them in person without having never tried them on you can tell someone is trying to scam the buyer. They are not the materials that would pass for Birkenstocks. Goodwill wouldn't even allow them to be sold in their store as Birkenstocks because they are crap. Crap footbed, crap buckle, crap straps, crap soles. Zapos and Amazon should not be selling knock off Birkenstocks for this price. Hopefully people will do their research before purchasing these. The quality of a real Birkenstock would never use synthetic materials. Look at what the shoes are made of before purchasing.

The following conversion chart is a general guideline to determine your size. Your exact size will ultimately depend on the structure of your individual foot and the style of the shoe. It is for your reference only. Please make sure your exact size before placing your order!

Sizes and widths

BIRKENSTOCK provides most of its shoes in two different widths.
- regular
- narrow

Sometimes shoes are only available in one width which corresponds to a regular (normal) wide foot. You can choose between: regular width which fits all normal feet and narrow width which fits narrow/slender feet. Medium is in between both widths. The difference between regular and narrow width is approx. 0.2 mm in the back and approx. 7 mm in the front.

All shoes are measured in metric sizes. Using the following table you can convert your sizes to european sizes.

Shoe fit
The correct size:
You should get the correct length, if you know the size of the shoes you normally wear. Keep this size in mind and convert it to the german size from the table above. The normal width should fit most of the feet. If you are convinced you have narrow/ slender feet in comparison to other peoples feet then you should choose the narrow width (not available for all products !).

You should have a few millimeters space in the heel and toe areas. Your toes should not press against the cork rim at the front nor should your heel press against the back rim. This will improve the longevity of your BIRKENSTOCKs and give you the best comfort

The difference between regular and narrow width is approx. 0.2 mm in the back and approx. 7 mm in the front.

Misleading description, super disappointed, correct shoe, wrong material

I can't speak yet for the fit as they are a Christmas present for my husband and he hasn't opened them yet. But I am VERY DISAPPOINTED that these Birkenstocks are NOT Leather like the amazon label said. I nearly broke the internet trying to track down a pair of size 14 or 15 men's birkenstocks and SPECIFICALLY DID NOT WANT the ones with the straps made of what they call "Birko-flor". Its a non-leather material. I wanted the all leather ones. The ones I purchased were labeled "Leather" on the amazon site. Once I got them and was looking at them the only part that was leather was the footbed where your foot actually rests in the shoe. on closer inspection of the box label in tiny letters it says "Birko-flor", The EXACT ONES I DID NOT WANT! I hate synthetic shoes. Especially if they are $99.97! But now it is too late to exchange them or hunt them down in the material I want, which for some random reason seem to be out of stock everywhere. Apparently a men's 14-15 is a popular Birkenstock size ???????
