Maybe not made for the flat-footed...

After reading all the rave reviews on Birkenstocks and what they can do for your foot health, I decided to give them a try. I have flat feet and a history of plantar fasciitis. Wearing them out of box, it felt like I was wearing 2 wooden planks with what feels like a mountain for "arch support." 5 minutes in and my feet were KILLING me. I tried all the "break-in" methods online to no avail. After wearing for 2 days straight they didn't get any better... and I started limping to walk. Just standing in them became unbearably painful. I'm returning these. I'm not sure if I am supposed to "brave it out" longer or if these just aren't made for the flat-footed. Either way, a sandal that has now made it painful to walk in anything isn't something I can afford as I am constantly on my feet.

TL;DR extremely, unbearably uncomfortable. Maybe not suited for flat-footed people. YMMV

Birkies not quite perfect

I wear (perhaps a little under) a men's 9; so ordered the Men's size appropriate for that. The package arrived and fortunately there was an outer tough shipping envelop, as the interior box was pretty much mangled in shipping; as such, the sandals were pressed together so much that, after a week, the first strap on one still is pressed down, so they do not permit the foot to "slide" in as easily as expected. They are a bit narrower than expected, although good arch support and at the lower limit of what I would call a tight fit ... but workable and nice to have around the house

Interesting people say Amazon sells fake Birks... I don't know if mine are real or not but I don't see any signs they could be replicas. Birks come in all shapes and sizes, you gotta find the ones that work for you! It is great they don't make a one-size-fits-all. I like 'soft bed' and narrow, I have wide feet but not Birkenstock wide, the narrows look more feminine. I was able to purchase mine from Amazon for $85 and the only other place to get those specific ones would be the Birks website for $135. These specific details limit which birks I buy. Highly recommend trying multiple birks styles before deciding on a pair.

I've worn Birkenstocks for decades and truly love them, especially since the Soft Footbed was introduced which was a vast improvement. However, I have never worn a pair that fit perfectly due to Birkenstocks' stubborn refusal to make size "wide". I've always had to purchase a size up from my usual size and then I have to make my own holes so the straps fit securely. Don't know why Birkenstock accommodates people with narrow feet but ignores those with wide feet. A 36W would be perfect but oh no, I have to go with a 37R (Regular) and make holes in new sandals. Blah!!!

Excellent quality shoes. The suede is very soft on the feet. Once properly adjusted,these shoes fit perfectly. Had my 1st pair of Birks for ten years and didn't want to give them up because they were so darn comfortable. Now own two pair (black & Brown suede). Look forward to many years of comfort with these as well.

Ready for a level of unparalleled comfort?! Then get these birks! Traditional look and feel. I haven't been this comfortable since college, why did I ever stop wearing these?!?! The two straps are very comfortable and keep them secured. The build quality is very good. Have been wearing these all summer and still love putting them on every time. I fish a lot, and lot of traction on the boat, clean up easily too. Highly recommend.

Ive been having issues with pain in my arches all summer. Ive been wearing plain, cheap flip flips from Target and I had excruciating pain in my arches when I walked for a couple hours at a time. I always heard wonderful things about Birkenstocks, so I did some research on them. I tried on a pair at a local Nordstrom to see how they fit. Im a regular size 8, so the size 38 fit me perfectly. I was so excited when these arrived in the mail, they were the only shoes I wore all summer!! They are SO comfortable and provided excellent arch support. The soft footbed was a great idea. It was like walking on marshmallows! Since wearing these sandals, Ive had no more arch pains even when walking for several hours at a time. I even wore these on spontaneous hikes! Absolutely no complaints. The only downside I will mention is that the width of the sandal did stretch out with wear. It isn't a big issue, but I like when my straps are nice and tight around my foot. Next time I will order these in narrow width! DEFINITELY worth the money.
