From the Back Cover
One of the fiercest and most feared warriors of the Knights Templar, Arn de Gotha can finally return home to his beloved Sweden, now that Jerusalem has been lost to Saladin. But during his twenty years of exile, Arn's homeland has been torn apart by warring clans—and the brave nobleman soldier is determined to reunite it and establish lasting peace.
Waiting for him is his beloved Cecilia, emerging from a convent to join him after their unfathomably long separation, against the stern demands of her clan. Their reunion could incite a war unless they can convince the clan that love ranks higher than politics, and that it can sustain a new quest: to create a new people, a new society, with Arn at its helm.

Novel 3 starts with the return of Jan, the protagonist, to his homeland and his reunion with his sweetheart, from whom he has been exiled for 20 years because they had a child out of wedlock. This volume mainly concerns how they build their properties to prepare for conflicts to come and to prosper. Although there are battles, the focus is not on war, but on relationships, including those with Moslems and other workers he has brought back from the Outremer. The story drags a bit, partly due to the fact that the writing style is more like history or biography than fiction. Maybe some of that is due to translation. If your idea of Crusades and medieval society is swords and gore, this is not a book for you. However, if you revel in descriptions of the development and clashes of cultures, I think you will find this interesting.
The first 2 books were really page turners, for which I would easily give 5 stars. I found the 3rd book too slow, too much information about the wedding, and the buildings, many of the details that didn't add to the story, but more or less felt like gossip. I felt like it was a way to fill the pages.
With that being said it was still a good story, and it did end in such a way where all questions were answered. The only other thing I would have like to see is a section that went through and told which parts of the story was fictional and which was real.
These books have everything for those readers who love action/adventure set in the Medieval Era that can teach as well as being great fun to read. The novels have great battles, political intrigue with an romance weaved through the fabric.
I would highly recommend these books and I am looking forward to reading other novels from this author.
