"You're trying to keep us in some odd sort of friend-zone, and I don't like it. I want you. All of you. I'm not talking sex, I'm talking about you trusting me."
Swoon. I loved Cohen so freaking much. He was patient yet knew when to push Annie. He was the team bad boy, but was really just misunderstood and gah! I just want to squeeze him so hard.
Annie was a little aggravating at times because she kept putting up walls and pushing Cohen away when all I wanted them to do was freaking kiss! But, when the finally did it was magical and totally worth the wait! Oh and she was looking for the ugliest swimsuits to try to keep Cohen away and I was just drying laughing reading this part. OMG!
"I surrender to him, body, mind, heart because it's more than a kiss. It's almost as if he's marking me, taking me as his own in front of all these people."
Annie's grandmother is so funny, I wish she could have her own book. She is just one of those crazy old ladies that will say whatever is on her mind and she is amazing!
Birthday Girl is a fun sexy read that you won't want to put down!
Annie is a young woman that's being forced to take swim lessons, the reasoning behind it will have you laughing too. Thanks to her mom, she has what could unequivocally be the ugliest bathing suit ever. And don't you just know the instructor is a hottie!!! And not just any hottie, he's one of the star players for the Minnesota Ice NHL team who's giving swim lessons, and not by his choice. Immediately I could tell there was an attraction between them. But they had a funny way of showing it. By the way, Annie isn't real fond of the water and getting praise was not at the top of her list...
"I made it down and back once, all by myself. I might have strapped myself into a life vest and held onto a secondary floatation device, but it was progress.....Annie, he says, changing his tune. You did good today. Really. Because you didn't steal my noodle."
I swear to you the loudness of my laughter could probably be heard down my street! Ms. Kate's ability to put these tidbits into the story is fabulous. Even when there were some tense moments whether between our H/h, between Annie and her Mom or Cohen and his teammates. I can honestly say there wasn't any part of this book that I didn't love.
Once Annie and Cohen take that step towards exploring the explosive chemistry between them, is when the story gets even better. Surprisingly, Cohen for all that he's a heartthrob star hockey player, is so much more than that which just endeared him to me that much more. Especially when Annie isn't ready for taking that BIG step. But the way she was feeling about him was very swoony....
"He smells like rain, or like freshly cut grass-the first snow of the year. Like something I'd always known existed, even before we'd met. It was like coming home."
The more I read, the more I loved. These characters are so rich and full and I couldn't not fall in love all of them. Especially her Gran! That woman is who I want to be when I get to be her age. She has no filter and she lives life to the fullest. Thankfully Annie is very close to her Gran and this love of life filters its way to Annie. I should also mention, there's a very good reason Annie isn't fond of swimming and when she and Cohen discuss it, I could feel the warmth and love he had for her...
"I step to him, unable to resist the image of him against the horizon. He's more gorgeous than any sunset I've ever seen...I brought you here because you take away all my fears. When I'm with you, it's easy not to be scared."
Oh, I could go on and on about how much I love this story. It's smart, funny, and endearing. I experienced a range of emotions, but most of all I laughed my tush off and it was such a pleasant way to spend my day; reading Annie and Cohen's love story! I can't wait to see what Ms. Kate has for us in the future.
If you're Annie Plymouth you suck it up and cave to her demands.
When you've gained a reputation as a "bad boy" and your publicist tells you it's time to clean up your act?
If you're Cohen James you suck it up and do what it takes.
Neither expected the local YMCA to be the place where their whole lives would change.
But when life doesn't go quite as planned, will they stop long enough to think their way out of their relationship? Or will the realize they love each other and want to spend the good and the bad times together?
Birthday Girl is a fun, sexy, romantic love story that will grip you from page one until the fabulous end.
I love how Cohen never give up to get that first date, and after that date he knew he wanted Annie in his life for as long as she'd let him. And despite the fact that Annie has trust issues, Cohen doesn't pressure her move the relationship faster then she's ready for.
Annie is scared, a that is understandable, but she still takes the risk to see where a relationship with Cohen can go. She's smart, witty, sassy, and loyal. She's someone that the reader can relate to and would love to have as a friend.
The more I read from Lily Kate, the more in love I become with her words. Birthday Girl is a brilliant read that I didn't want to put down and slightly cried because I didn't want it to end. I love the passion, the thoughtfulness, the kindness, and the love that was contained between the pages. Cohen James is definitely a hero you want to swoon over and maybe even want to pretend to be drowning so that he can rescue you and give you mouth to mouth.
So if you need a romantic comedy that will have you laughing, crying, and falling in love, then I highly recommend you pick up Birthday Girl.
