Each short story challenges us to consider how other societies could have evolved. And in the end, how generations born into a spaceship paradise might choose to inhabit an earth-like planet they had targeted. Thank you Ursula!

Several stories n the Hainsh Universe. She explores several patriarchal/matriarchal cultures. Her characters and cultures are vividly portrayed. The master has done it again.

This book is a collection of stories focusing on love/marriage/relationships on different planets. Some of the tales are sweet romances, some make you think about how our society has come do define traditional roles in love.

In the literary world, Ursula Le Guin is a treasure. This short story/novella collection reinforces the power of her simple but beautiful prose. She pulls you in, makes you comfortable, and opens up a world driven by your own imagination. Loved it.

Ursula Le Guin explores the human mind with supreme subtleness, using tales of far off places as a way to dislocate deep and complex characters and force them to face their humanity. Considered a "genre writer", her talent transcends genre expectations and preconceptions, so that her writing should be simply classified as good literature, as opposed to good sci-fi or good fantasy.
Highly recommended, especially the last homonimous short story in the collection.

Just fantastic. Deep thoughts, beautiful writing (never a word too many...or too few), a rich and rewarding read. Highly recommended.

Series of short stories, so style and narrative changes piece to piece. Interesting examination of human interactions.

I read this book and liked it so much that we selected it for our book club. Le Guin creates the amazing worlds that make you rethink how our society views gender, sex, and the human race. I strongly recommed this book for a book club and its a book that should be discussed among friends.

This is a book of short stories. I love reading Ursula LeGuin because she is so imaginative about how different cultures could develop. We take for granted the way our society emerged, but we could have gone many different ways.

Make no mistake this is Ursula Le Guin at her finest. Opening minds. Shedding light from a different source. I've been a fan of hers for years. This book keeps her firmly in my top five authors.
