The Bissell ProHeat 2X Premier Full-Size Carpet Cleaner, Blue, 47A23 is the first I’ve had that employs a heat feature to keep the water hot while cleaning. I have to say that I really like the fact that the water doesn’t cool off significantly by the time I spray it on the carpet.
This cleaner also has another novel feature – there is only one tank for both clean and dirty water. The tank has a flexible bladder inside where the clean water and solution go. The dirty water is deposited into the reservoir surrounding the bladder. As you spray more areas, the bladder takes less space in the tank, which makes room for more dirty water to be suctioned up. The real advantage to this configuration for me is that only one tank needs to be taken to the sink every time you need to empty and refill – no more toting two tanks each time. Also, the tank seems to be bigger than my old Hoover cleaner, which means less trips to the sink to refill. The Hoover didn’t hold enough liquid to handle the entire living room – I always had to refill halfway through, but the Bissell was able to clean that entire area without refilling. The less I have to handle the tank, the faster this chore goes.
Bissell touts 10 rows of cleaning with dual rotating powerbrushes, and having seen the unit, there are indeed some pretty serious looking brushes in it. Having used it, I can attest to the effectiveness of these brushes.Read more ›
Putting this unit together takes about 3 minutes. Quick, easy and done. It feels solid enough, sturdy. My only concern is that sometimes when the water tank is totally full, making the unit heavy, you can feel some wiggle in the handle as you steer and use the shampooer. It is really only very slight and I really don't think it will be an issue, but it is something I noticed.
This is the first time I tried a cleaner that has the clean and dirty water area all in the same tank. To be honest, I didn't think I would like it. Turns out, I do like it - a lot. It is so much easier to empty and clean just one tank. One my Hoover, I had to empty the dirty tank and fill the clean tank and carry both tanks back and forth to the shamppoer for every fill and dump. With this Bissell, it's one tank to lug back and forth, so much easier and much less messy.
The tank has a sort of plastic bag in it that you fill with your clean/soap water. As you spray the clean/soap water onto the floor and then suck it up, it goes into the tank and basically surrounds the bag. The bag depletes as you use the water and therefore makes room for all of the dirty water to be sucked up into the tank. When you have sucked up all the dirty water, you dump the tank and refill and get back to work.
This unit is sort of heavy. The first time I used it, I could definitely tell a difference from when I use my Hoover. I do not mind the weight though and I can't even notice it anymore. The results of cleanliness of the carpets is well worth it regardless.Read more ›
I have about 11 years of experience owning Bissell carpet cleaners, this is my third Bissell. My last cleaner was a ProHeat Pet Deep Cleaning Systems (Model 89104) lasted almost 5 years, the one before that was also a Proheat Pet and I had that 6 years. My last Bissell was replaced because the spray wasn't as strong anymore probably because of hard water buildup in heater component. Rather than fix, I just bought a new one. I did my research and almost went with a Hoover Max Extact 60, but chickened out and stayed with Bissell. Both Proheat systems were very good to me, they cleaned well, easy to use, and I was skilled at trouble shooting them, which really wasn't much, mostly to clean machine. I used the heck out of them too, seems like every 3-4 weeks. Reason why - I have 4 kids and 2 carefree/fear free dogs.
I thought I was trading up when I bought this newer version but found out it is more like a trade down. Following are my pros and cons of the newer model (47A24) as compared to the older ones. Wishing now that I followed one of the many youtube videos on how to clean it instead of throwing it away.
Model 47A24 Pros:
* Does a great job cleaning carpet (to me NO different then 89104)
* Water and solution go in one tank (89104 has 2 separate containers, also means one less thing to trouble shoot)
* Little bit bigger tank 1.25 gallons (By .Read more ›
