During the first five years, the belts lasted a long time, like years. Lately, however, the belts have begun to burn up and disintegrate before our eyes.
We keep the brush extremely clean, as we have pets and long-haired residents in the home. We keep it hair free, routinely taking any gathered hair off it. We also remove the brush from its setting every few months and make sure it spins. We clean out the insertion points and make sure the belt insertion points are working, free of debris, and all areas of friction are covered with the metal overhangs sent with the vacuum.
Now, however, the belts last 60 days if lucky.
We found a Hoover belt from our last vacuum (in 2010) in the back of a drawer, and we compared it to the belts Bissell sends out now. What a sad joke: the Bissell belts are half the width and feel nothing like "old" belts feel. They are now more like a stiff plastic band than they are like an actual rubber belt. It makes sense, now, too, that I see black, chalky residue lining the friction point of the brush and along the inside of the undercarriage. These belts are powerless to regular heat and use.
I cannot recommend these belts to anyone. Worse, the belts we bought on the Bissell website are just as bad.
I have treated this sweeper very well. We change the filters, clean out the brush, and can-of-air the insides weekly. The actual sweeper has lasted eight years, easily. But the replacement parts? They seem to slowly lose quality. I guess this is how these companies get us to buy new units.
Well, we will ... from Hoover or Dyson.
