Pros Next:
The book covers:
Wallets and Nodes are covered with light talk about Authoritative Nodes and SPV Nodes. Nodes are explained in a way that is sufficient for the Newbie or lesser informed Bitcoiner.
Blockchain is explained decently but still simply enough that everyone gets it.
Symmetric and asymmetric key encryption is demonstrated in a very simple way using easy to follow examples, step-by-step, walking you through the process and showing you how it relates to Bitcoin Signatures.
Elliptic Curve Cryptography and where it lies within Bitcoin Address creation is covered in a layman's way so that anyone can get it.
They go over Bitcoin Mining with pretty good detail and discourage mining for profit. The two authors describe details about hash rates and difficulty levels simply so that the average person can understand, but developers will benefit as well.
Price volatility is also slightly covered with references to valuation increases and decreases over time. It's actually presented as a “Caveat emptor” but leaves you feeling very optimistic about the future of Bitcoin.
Code writing is also covered. Node.js, Bitcoin Core Client deployment, Java, JSON-RPC are all very thinly covered but in a way a novice developer can get started and continue with research online. Great door opener for developers who haven't yet investigated Full Bitcoin Nodes and interacting with such.
I am sure there was more covered in the book than I have listed here. I read it a while ago and haven't had the time to post my review until now. All in all I would tell everyone to add this book to their Bitcoin Collection from novices to experts.
EDIT: Make sure when you are doing the Transaction examples in the book (code writing) you are using the Bitcoin Testnet instead of the Bitcoin Network. This will ensure you don't lose real bitcoins!! This is not covered in the book but should have been.
This book is the best source for solid, step-by-step Bitcoin information I have found. You would think that maybe the Internet would provide everything you need to understand the Bitcoin transactional-social development but I have not found that to be true. Isn't this the sort of subject where any (printed) book is way too late?
The authors answered my first question right up front: "To keep this book relevant for the future, we did our best to focus on those aspects of Bitcoin that will remain important forever, and we tried to cover them in a way that is fun." They met their goal spot on and the fact that one of the authors shared his skill as a cartoonist did not hurt at all. There are a lot of creative and memorable narrative techniques in this book. Well done!
I got this book because I am frustrated that my savings are earning approximately 0% interest because of the policies of my government--while inflation in the basic necessities of everyday life is worrisome. Lots of people are in the same situation.
What are the alternatives available to us to at least protect what we have?
This book clarified for me the practicality of the Bitcoin path. For now, I intend to enthusiastically avoid the Bitcoin world of exchanges, wallets, addresses, market orders, limit orders and cryptography--and continue looking for that safe haven we all crave.
You might think the subject itself could be a little dry or confusing, but I think the authors introduced the topic well in laymen's terms. Or at least they provided relatable stories to help you understand how things worked. All of the chapters except for maybe Chapter 7 (more in depth description of the cryptography behind it) were very accessible. There were entertaining comics as well as jokes and stories spread throughout.
I would recommend this book to anyone interested or curious about bitcoin or any spin-off alternative cryptocurrencies. This is one of the few books this year that I read cover to cover. I'm looking forward to picking up other books by these authors.

Luckily this is right up my street, and I enjoyed it immensely. Sadly it means I am still looking for that readable "Bitcoin for the normal person" book, but I did get a brilliant book out of it!
