Though this second installment had all of the characters we fell in love with, and those we fell in hate with, in book 1, this one focused more on the past and present life of Jill Prescott. In this book we learn how she fell in love, became a vampire, and how she lost the will to live without the one man who changed her life forever.
As the chapters flip from the past to the present, the reader is able to watch the love between Jill and "Doc" develop and grow. We are also able to feel the pain Doc feels when he is forced to change her into a vampire, and the pain Jill feels when Doc is murdered.
Now that their Sire is dead, Jill's only reason to continue living is to help her friend Devan take down the Org. Something that Doc himself had been working on as well. Once that is taken care of, she plans on ending her own existence. What is there worth living for anymore with the love of her life gone anyway?
But Doc's compassion while treating the kept children of the Org had not gone unnoticed, and he was given a great gift. With his passing his gift was passed to Jill, his one true love. Now she must choose what her heart desires the most. Revenge, Freedom, or Love?
I personally liked this installment more than the first. Perhaps it's just the romantic in me. I literally had to force myself not to skip over the "present" day chapters I was so enthralled with Jill's and Doc's love story! I just hope the third book is just as good.

Well, I loved WITCH WAY BENDS, Book 1 of the Bend-Bite-Shift trilogy and I was anxious to read the follow-up, BITTEN SHAME. Was I disappointed at all?
That would be a very big NO. See the title of this review. :-)
Not only did I enjoy this story even more, but I also enjoyed the characters even more. The ones I got to know in the first book, plus some great new ones.
Olivia Hardin is a great storyteller. I'm going to put out a request here to her for her to get book #3 to us soon. I'm VERY anxious to read it!
Bitten Shame Book 2 Of the Bend-Bite Trilogy
By Olivia Harden
I have to say I loved book 2 more than book one. And I just absolutely loved book one. I recommend both books to everyone. The way Olivia is able to bring her characters to life and make you either love the or hate some of them. The book is set on a fast pace where she just draws you into the story. Allot of questions were answered for the back storyline of Jill. I am definitely looking forward to more in this storyline will everyone be rewarded or all their deeds or will life be cruel to people who are willing to risk their lives for the greater good and the protection of the magical children. Is there a traitor in there circle who could it be? Can the finally shut down the Org? Hopefully all our questions will be answered the next chapter.......I could not put this book down.
Personally, in the beginning the time jumps had me a little off kilter because I wanted more of Jill's past, but as the present day story developed, I wanted more of it too. The character development is great, the story is fantastic, and the text is well written. I look forward to book 3 in this series as it is one of my favorites!
I rarely read trilogies anymore, partly because too many first books have cliff-hanger endings -- which I really hate -- and partly because I usually have a backlog of books that authors have asked me to review. In fact, I have seven books right now that I put aside to read "Bitten Shame" because I was so captivated by the characters and the storyline, that I just couldn't resist continuing the story.
This book is mostly Devan's best girlfriend, Jill's story although it also brings Doc's and Charlie's characters to the forefront as well as fills in some holes that were in the first book. I gave this book four stars instead of five because I found the writing style of alternating chapters of the past and the present to be disruptive and a bit frustrating. The story itself was too good to be spoiled by these interruptions and I really enjoyed the crisp, authentic dialogues and the vividly descriptive imagery. The matter of the alternating chapters is only a matter of personal taste; I know many people who particularly like that style, so if you do, add another star.
This book was definitely more than just a bridge between the first and third books of the trilogy and if you enjoyed the first book then I'm sure that you'll enjoy this one. It is not a stand-alone book, though; the trilogy must be read in order. I suggest that you read Langston's tale which is a short story found in the anthology "Painted Cupid Blind" before you read the third book "Shifty Business." I definitely recommend this book. Happy reading!
