Editorial Reviews

"This book delivers the whole spectrum of emotions. The dialogue is witty, the inner thoughts sarcastic and the story line both fun and heartbreaking. J.L. Beck leaves us with a monster of a cliffhanger, but with the next novella on the way, this is no surprise. I'm incredibly restless to get my hands on the rest of Corey and Mimi's story." -Prisoners of Print
"This author and her books are absolutely one of my favorites. I would definitely recommend this book to others! If you haven't read J.L. Beck's books you need to because they can't be missed." -Goodreads Review

This review contains some spoilers for Books 1 and 2 (no spoilers for Book 3).

Bittersweet Hate is the 3rd book in the Bittersweet Series.

This series is being written and released in a way I have never seen before and I am totally in love with it! So far it has been a story of 5 people and each book focuses on two of them while the other characters still play important roles. The first book (Bittersweet Revenge) sets up the series. We find out the history of this group and how they interact with one another.

The end of book 1 hints at a possible relationship between Jenna and Rex, along with a cliffhanger to lead into the next book. Book 2 (Bittersweet Love), focused on this relationship and ended with a possible relationship of two other characters that we are now familiar with, Corey and Mimi. This book also ended with a twist, which lead the reader to want more. Each of these books wrapped up the main story nicely, then started to focus on a new relationship and next thing you know…BAM! Cliffhanger!

Thankfully J.L. Beck does not waste any time in getting these books out to her fans. I don’t know how she does it but she is able to write these quickly (Thankfully!!) and with a high quality storyline.

Book 3 (Bittersweet Hate) starts off where Book 2 (Bittersweet Love) left off but with an explanation as to Corey’s situation (the cliffhanger from Book 2). Just from reading the first few pages of this book, I could feel my heart racing as it was explaining what lead up to Corey’s situation.

This book still had all the characters from the previous two books but the focus was on Corey and Mimi’s love/hate relationship.

After watching the relationship of Jenna and Rex in the first two installments of the Bittersweet series, I was anxious to see Mimi’s perspective. What I love most about Bittersweet Hate is getting to know Mimi Jones and how she ticks. She's tough as nails and doesn't take crap from anyone. That makes her relationship with Corey a surprising one. They both possess very strong Alpha personalities and regularly clash. In the beginning Corey steps up as Mimi’s knight in shining armor, and their relationship blossoms (almost begrudgingly) from there. However, in the end you're left rooting for Mimi to overcome not only Corey, but also her own inner demons. Corey Winchester is a character that I love to hate. No matter what he does I can’t seem to trust him, and boy does he ever make me hate him! After the SHOCKING ending of Bittersweet Hate, I cannot wait for the conclusion to Mimi and Corey’s story in Bittersweet Trust! This is another solid four star read for me!

I enjoyed getting to know Mimi in the first two books of this series, so I was pretty excited to read the beginning of her story in Bittersweet Hate. I was NOT disappointed!

Mimi worked her way into my book-loving heart with her compassion and dedication to her best friend, Jenna, who was being bullied and harassed by their classmates. Mimi's fierce loyalty and sassy, fiery attitude made her an incredible character.

In Bittersweet Hate, I got to know more about Mimi and learned she has vulnerabilities and insecurities just like every one else. She is also in love with Corey, the ring leader of the "let's make Jenna's life hell" group. I could tell she was conflicted about her relationship with Corey, not just because of what he did to Jenna, but also because he had showed the type of evilness that lurked inside him. Jenna gave her "okay" to Mimi being with him, so Mimi and Corey began a complicated, passionate, steamy, fiery relationship. Mimi and Corey have to work hard for their union to be successful beyond sex. They both have to learn to trust each other, to fight the demons of their past, and become the incredible people they are capable of being. Corey especially needs to find it in himself to be the man Mimi needs in her life. Bittersweet Hate begins this journey and contains a shell shocker of a question-filled cliffhanger ending that the next book will be able to answer.

As in the first two books, there are several grammatical, mechanical, punctuation errors in this book that really started to wear on me. J.L. Beck is obviously a very talented storyteller, so it saddens me that proofreading errors get in the way of her writing abilities truly shining to the level they should be.

I was drawn into this book right away. My heart was beating hoping she could run fast enough. This is a short story that left me wanting more. The set up is great. I can't wait to read more about Mimi and Corey. I absolutely loved the sarcastic banter between these two. The hatred that pours off of Mimi and Corey has you guessing if some hot sex really will tone them down! After Mimi decides to push Corey to the edge it all goes wild from there. Just when things were starting to make sense, a twist is thrown in leaving you wondering what will happen next. Both Mimi and Corey seem to be fighting past demons that has them each wavering the seriousness of what they have. I unfortunately haven't read the first two books, but I still loved this story. And I can't wait to read more about Mimi and Corey and what will happen, will they be able to fight their way back? What will Mimi do? Corey is too afraid to let things go any further, can he overcome his insecurities and be the man Mimi needs? I have a ton of questions and can't wait for J.L. to write more! Definitely a 5 star read!!
