All of the above I found in Joel Travis' first novel, "Blabbermouth". Having read as many poorly thought out novels as I have, I am a skeptic until proven otherwise; having said that, I was hooked after reading the first 4-5 teaser pages found on the Amazon website. It was the dialogue that drew me in, and I was not disappointed after buying the book and getting past those first few pages.
This is an wonderful read, good characters (most of them in serious need of professional help of one sort or another!), and outstanding dialogue, the latter reminiscent of one of my favorite authors, Elmore Leonard. Or an even better analogy--remember the characters and dialogue in Joseph Heller's "Catch-22"?
This is a very entertaining and enjoyable book. Reading inside the back cover, apparently it finished in the top 100 out of 5000 entered in a 2008 first novel contest...if this was only in the top 100, it makes me want to seek out many other finalists as they also must be great reads.
Other reviewers need to lighten up. If you want a Harlequin Romance Mystery, then by all means, read one. But don't compare, and give a "One Star" rating, to a great book because it's not what YOU expected.
Brit is an ego maniac whose feelings of self worth/import lend so much humor one cannot help but laugh as if watching old "Honeymooners" and "Carol Burnett" and "I Love Lucy" with some stooges; stan & laurel tossed in. This is a refreshing debut novel from a writer who I look forward to reading again. I await his next installment (hopefully) of this "detective" series. But I will give anything else he writes a go as well.

The main character was too chauvinistic for me. I finished reading the book because I needed to see how it ended, but I don't know that I would read something else in a series.Published 4 months ago by Anne Zechel
