With copious footnotes, Gaffney spends the first 140 pages telling us about the history of financial elements that appear to have played a key role in motivating the events of that fateful day.
Not counting the Appendices, the last 90 pages deal with the failure of claims that try to show how the aircraft used in the attacks were steered by young, inexperienced pilot hijackers.
The book includes a Foreword and Afterword by engineer/researcher Aidan Monaghan detailing the use of autopilot technology in existence well prior to 11 September 2001 as the only plausible explanation for making the difficult flight manoeuvres that were observed by radar.
It would be well to quote here a very strong, key paragraph in Gaffney's Prologue to give the reader an understanding of the author's stance on just why the public has been kept in the dark about so many facets of 9/11 and of our society in general:
"America is probably the most propagandised country on earth... Our countrymen have been systematically dumbed down, distracted and demoralised by our own government and its willing minions in the media and throughout much of academia. Here in the US, the dark arts of thought control have been elevated to a level of sophistication almost undreamed of by the Nazis and Soviets."
He then proceeds to give us forewarnings that existed prior to 9/11 involving a host of governmental, industrial, military, and financial policies and actions leading up to the event itself. We learn, for instance, of "the CIA's pragmatic `need' to associate with unsavoury individuals and criminals in the interest of furthering US foreign-policy goals... This of course means that when criminals are judged to be intelligence assets they are to be granted protection from prosecution for narcotrafficking, money laundering, extortion, rape, even terrorism and murder. Such has been our de facto policy since at least the final days of World War II."
We also know that many frontline journalists in every major US media operation were/are on the Agency's payroll.
Gaffney gives us numerous specific examples for clear evidence of secret CIA dealings in Southeast Asia, Central America, and, more recently Afghanistan and Iraq. He reminds us of US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's press conference on 10 September 2001 in which he stated the Department of Defense could not account for $2.3 trillion of the Pentagon budget. Gaffney quotes a source saying that perhaps as much as 40% of the US defense budget is "black" - hidden from public and even Congressional scrutiny.
"One of the most successful frauds ever perpetrated upon the American people is the notion that the CIA exists to provide intelligence to the president. In fact, the CIA's intimate links to Wall Street suggest that the CIA was created to serve the perceived interests of investment bankers."
We are told how this was done under the nose of President Truman. (It is here Gaffney recommends, and I second the recommendation, The Secret Team by Col. L. Fletcher Prouty, an insider's view of the CIA's clandestine operations.)
We "follow the money" as our author exposes shady dealings by Marsh & McLennan, Kroll Associates, the Blackstone Group, the Federal Reserve, the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, The Carlyle Group, AIG, Bankers Trust, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Raytheon, United and American Airlines, Citigroup, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Wachovia, American Express, Bank of New York (BoNY), J.P. Morgan-Chase, Alex Brown & Sons, Cigna, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and a host of other financial, insurance, military, and industrial giants that were impacted in some way by 9/11. Insider trading shortly prior to that date is looked at in depth.
We are reminded of certain questionable if not patently nefarious activities of individuals such as Maurice "Hank" Greenberg, Alvin "Buzzy" Krongard, Allen Dulles, Panama's Manuel Noriega, Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, Ronald Reagan, the two Presidents Bush, Bill Clinton, Robert Rubin, Clark Clifford, William Casey, George Tenet, Frank Wisner, Israel's Bruce Rappaport, Philippine's former President Ferdinand Marcos, and a host of others.
By recounting history pre-9/11 and by pointing out financial repercussions post-9/11, Gaffney makes a very strong argument that all was planned and that it evolved as planned. The bottom line he thoroughly illustrates is that 9/11 was actually, "the mother of all money laundering scams."
Black 9/11 for me is written in the spirit of David Ray Griffin's series of books beginning with The New Pearl Harbor (2004), Webster Tarpley's and Anton Chaitkin's George Bush, The Unauthorized Biography (2004), and Alan Friedman's Spider's Web (1993). However, and this is a big HOWEVER, I strongly feel Gaffney's book must be read in tandem with Dr. Judy Wood's Where Did the Towers Go (2010). (See my review of that book at Amazon.com.)
While Gaffney gives us the Who and quite probably the Why behind 9/11, Dr. Wood gives us the What and possibly the How, at least for the Twin Towers. Black 9/11 does not venture into a discussion of the physical evidence for the disintegration of the Towers as does Dr. Wood's book. But, together, they form a more complete picture that begs for opening a new investigation into so many of the facts that were blatantly ignored by the official 9/11 Commission.

The book, Black 9/11 by Mark H. Gaffney is an indispensable component for the 9/11 researcher and for anyone that recognizes that America stopped that day. The only way that we, as a society will be able to recover (if ever), is to understand what really happened and why, and to use that knowledge to hold our leaders accountable, thus restoring the Constitution of the United States, this publication is a part of the healing.
I have come across several writings by Mr. Gaffney on the internet but it's a nice to see his work all in one spot (I have his 9/11 mystery plane but just haven't gotten to it yet). I initially got the kindle version but because of my necessarily to highlight and make notes, I found that it was easier to go ahead and get the hard copy.
The very first area that I highlighted was on page 1 of the forward where it was noted that the flight performance of the inexperienced terrorist pilots surprised knowledgeable observes to where on page 3, Mr. Gaffney presents the hypothesis that the use of "clandestine use of precise augmented GPS guided auto-pilot" was used in the attack on September 11th, 2001. This thesis is amplified throughout the book with a final, in-depth, explanation in the Afterword about the "Plausibility of 9/11 Aircraft Attacks Generated by GPS-Aircraft Autopilot Systems Part Two".
I don't have the knowledge to question this concept one way or the other but I do hope that some professional pilots reading this on Amazon, will agree with me that this explanation is the best one yet on how those planes had pin point accuracy to smash into specific locations that are explored in depth in the book.
The next area in the prologue is on page 10 where Mr. Gaffney notes that "American is probably the most propagandized country on earth...Our countrymen have been systematically dumbed down, distracted and demoralized by our own government and its willing minions in the media and throughout much of academia. Here in the US. The dark arts of thought control have been elevated to a level of sophistication almost undreamed by the Nazis and the Soviets". The proof of this statement can be found here in an undergrad class I took a while back using this text book with the write up:A History of Modern Psychology Additionally, Servando Gonzalez work, Psychological Warfare and the New World Order dovetails quite clearly what Mr. Gaffney presents.Psychological Warfare and the New World Order: The Secret War Against the American People This concept is further back up in Chapter 2 where it is pointed out that Maurice Greenberg for the Council of Foreign Relations also the AIG CEO (explored latter as a connection to 9/11) notes that "Foreign policy ought to take precedence of law enforcement when it come to overseas operations" Another example is "The campaign against Gary Webb has been called "one of the most venomous and factually inane assaults on a professional journalist's competence in living memory" Later in the same chapter, we are reminded that the CIA's support of Afghan drug lords became well known. ( Edit updated: I am now reading this book because of what I have discovered in Black 9/11. Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion
Next, there's a detailed breakdown of the effected locations and the associated Companies, the people and how destroying them with destructive attacks would help to cover-up the insider trading that happened before, during and after September 11th, 2001. I thought it was an excellent way that it was presented in the book about the actions that the SEC took to cover-up the put options'. Chapter 4, titled Insiders Trade, lays out in clear and undeniable proof that the 9/11 Commission Report, covered up who bought 95% of the UAL puts, as observed on page 499, notes to chapter 5, note 130 of the commission report, where it says that "A single U.S.--based institutional investor with no conceivable ties to al Qaeda purchased 95% of the puts on September 6..." Black 9/11 shows who most likely that investor" really is.
Next, the money. American banks, international drug profits, CIA connections and one that really surprised me was the biggest one of all: The Black Gold. My spouse is from the Philippines and I had to ask her, if she ever heard about the Gold after reading about this in Gaffney's work. She said her and all her friends grew up hearing about the tunnels full of gold. I ordered the Gold Warriors from Amazon after reading chapter 7, Black Gold. Gold Warriors: America's Secret Recovery of Yamashita's Gold. Edited to add: On page `172 of the Official, government authorized, 9/11 Commission report, I quote: To date, the U.S. Government has not been able to determine the the origin of the money used for the 9/11 attacks. Ultimately the question is of little practical significance". Also on page 56, I quote: The international environment fo rBin Ladin's efforts were ideal. Saudi Arabia and the United States supplied billions of dollars worth of secret assistance to rebel groups in Afghanistan...)The 9/11 Commission Report: Final Report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (Indexed Hardcover, Authorized Edition)
In chapter 9, the reader will start off by reading "One of the most successful frauds ever perpetrated upon the American people is the notion the CIA exists to provide intelligence to the president. In fact, the CIA's intimate links to Wall Street suggest that the CIA was created to serve the perceived interests of investment bankers". Mr. Gaffney prove this in this chapter and several others throughout the book.
Chapter 11 is titled Remote-control 9/11. I thought that it was easily understood and was not able to disagree with how this information is presented. One reason is about what was reported and the way that Gaffney presented about the "other crash close to Camp David" You know, they (our government) uses UAV's in other countries, why not here. Think about it.
This review is getting too long and there's lot that I am missing but bottom line, I like this book and it's a keeper for me.
This was a enjoyable read with factual information that I had not seen anywhere else. Get this book!
