"As someone who enjoys the physical nature of Taekwondo, as well as triathlons, mountaineering and 24 hour endurance races, Grandmaster Kang has helped me strengthen not only my body but my mental capacity as well. "The T. Kang Taekwondo website states 'A tradition of excellence since 1969'; this is a rare truth in today's hyped-up social media era. Grandmaster Kang runs an outstanding program that has truly benefited both me and my family. Training with Grandmaster for more than a decade has not only benefited me personally (I'm less stressed and more focused at work), but has benefited our home life. Our kids became more attentive and excelled at school and other sporting activities. Training under Grandmaster Kang as a family and earning our black belts has been an exceedingly rewarding personal and family experience." —Robert Vecchio, Ph.D., P.E., CEO/Principal Lucius Pitkin, Inc.
"My favourite part of the book is how it makes getting fitter seem so reachable and realistic for everyone out there through making simple changes. This inspiration is needed in any fitness guide, as starting is always the hardest part. A great and easy read, full of very useful advice for a lifestyle change that will no doubt make you into a fitness Black belt." — Martial Arts Lab
"I've learned the importance of stretching and exercising on a regular basis from my experience as a healthcare professional for the last 17 years. I have to thank Grandmaster, though, because he's always taught us that injuries and setbacks make us stronger mentally, which he expands upon in this wonderful book. And there's another very important lesson he points out: life-long fitness is about the journey, not the end result; it doesn't matter that I missed a belt test, because I have my whole life ahead of me to keep training. I recently began easing back into practicing Taekwondo, and though I'm currently weaker and several pounds heavier than I was five months ago, I'm confident that I'll get back to where I was with time, and that's because I see the way Grandmaster and his other staff members persevere through their injuries and continuously strive to be better than ever.
I actually just did the strengthening plan exercises for "White Belt Beginner Level" in the book and am currently writing this review covered in sweat—after only three minutes of exercise! Grandmaster's approach to fitness is not only easy and time-efficient, but super effective—almost surprisingly so. I highly, highly recommend this book to everyone, whether they be exercise novices or exercise junkies. Grandmaster teaches not just about physical fitness, but demonstrates how to achieve mental clarity, life balance and self-confidence—with no gimmicks or shortcuts.
I was definitely not disappointed in the end result. Black Belt Fitness For Life is a no-nonsense workout and fitness plan that never condescends and instructs readers in an earnest, positive manner. You can take control of your own physical well-being. It won't be easy, but that's the beauty of the book. There are no quick-fixes or nonsense. It's all about using the five tenets of taekwondo to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle over the long term.
With helpful illustrations, readable prose, and an excellent central conceit, Black Felt Fitness For Life is an ideal choice for both experienced martial artists and people who are looking to get fit for the first time. Definitely check this one out.
But beyond considerations of style, the reader soon discovers some of the wisdom that a gifted teacher can impart. Grandmaster Kang’s philosophy, based on the tenets of Tae Kwon Do, is instilled in his approach to life and all of its endeavors, including his effective workout method.
I am happy to endorse Grandmaster Kang’s fitness program because it is based on sound principles that are in harmony with his approach to life and the martial arts. By setting challenging but realistic goals, and with patience and consistency, one can use this program to achieve sustainable and continually progressive results.
