David Horowitz's excellent insights into the 'progressive' mind comes from growing up with Communists as parents and believing everything they stood for - until he grew up. As much as many try to hide it, there is nothing new about the 'progressive' movement. It is the same old and tired commune of socialism that has been tried many times in history, and always fails miserably.

This edition of the Black Book on the American Left brings up the history of the 'progressives' to detail these failures. Young people today may actually think the term "progressive" is new - it is not. Regressive may be a better name than progressive when it comes to the current leftist ideology. The "1984" terminology the left uses does not hide this fact.

Horowitz's books never fail to stimulate discussion, and it is a very important discussion for the future direction of the US. Everyone will benefit from reading this book.

Some have criticized this books because it repeats articles. OK, fine, if you have been following Horowitz. But I just discovered him a few months ago. So, I can read him on the way to work on the subway with my Kindle instead of hunting down every article. I wouldn't even know where to find most of them. Works for me.

I didn't realize how much my knowledge of past events has been corrupted by the MSM. This man refreshes my memory of past events life Vietnam and moves me to see things from a better perspective. His work is well-researched. There are facts never surfaced by MSM.

I think he is the best writer about the left I have ever read, but then, he was a "red diaper baby," grew up to love freedom and reject leftist theology. I love this man. He is the best. May he live to 200.

Educating ourselves about the true history of the American 20th century will lead us to once again recall the infamous quote,
(attributed to Churchill) “Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains.”

David Horowitz was there, and not just there but an ideologue and true believer! He was educated into the "whys" of the radicals who are now resurgent under Obama. The truth he proclaims is an embarrassment to the typical, ignorant liberal and a threat to those who also know the truth of what they're up to!

I also recommend to Tricky Nicky and others of his ilk, "Students for a Democratic Society: A Graphic History"
by Harvey Pekar (hardly a conservative!) but very revealing and honest by another one "who was there!"

David Horowitz has a unique insight into the mind and motivations of progressives, having grown up a communist and participating in radical left-wing causes (such as the Black Panthers) in the 1960's and 70's. He takes no prisoners in describing the fallacies and contradictory thinking of the political far-left in America.

Horowitz does it consistently, accurately, and is his aim is succinct as usual. For anyone who seeks to understand the inner-workings of a period in our history that confounds the uninitiated, Horowitz provides an unusual and clarifying influence on his reader.

David Horowitz was born in a Communist immigrant family in the United States but later turned against the left because of their massive crimes against humanity. Because he knows the left intimately he is uniquely able to document the original Communist ideologues and how they have managed to rebrand themselves as liberals and how as liberals they have managed to take over American colleges and universities. Anyone who has most of David Horowitz's previous material might be disappointed since this book is a compilation of previous articles but the material in this compilation is timeless and is just as valuable and relevant as it was when it was first published.

One of David Horowitz's best. Make sure to purchase the other Volumes of The Black Book. Mr. Horowitz sums up who Progressives truly are as they represent an ideology no different than that espoused by Karl Marx.

A young female friend is murdered by the Black Panthers and so begins David Horowitz's journey from avid Lefty to conservative champion. Its a harrowing tale of shattered beliefs that eventually gives way to apostasy. While, David Horowitz gives a detailed account of his transformation, he also instructs the reader on the philosophy of the left and the horrors it has brought to millions of innocent people so it can achieve its impossible dream of social justice and equality whether we like it not. Most books I read alone, but not this one. On a very long journey, with husband and a car full of teenagers, I opened up David Horowitz's book and read until i could not read anymore. Surprisingly, not one protest was uttered. They listened and learned.
