If you are purchasing this to read on Kindle, don't! About 50% in the book is in what I can only imagine is a .pdf. Therefore, for all of the interviews, the type is very small and faint. Changing the text size does not alter this fact. I just want to warn anyone who might be thinking of purchasing this to read on Kindle. It is a waste of money.

The tips in this book consist of shameless product plugs, there are tons of references to "detoxing" even though that's total bunk according to any reputable doctor, and nobody bothered to check if it's ok to use Accutane (isotretinoin) during pregnancy, obviously, because they suggest asking your doctor about it if you have acne. I've taken Accutane, and it's so dangerous for pregnant women that they make you sign a contract monthly promising to use two forms of birth control, you have to take a monthly quiz reiterating that you know it's dangerous for fetuses, and you have to take a monthly pregnancy test to get your prescription. Sadly, somebody could read this book and get Accutane online without seeing a doctor and put their baby at risk for serious birth defects, as in "hearing and visual impairment, missing or malformed earlobes, facial dysmorphism, and mental retardation" according to Wikipedia. This book is a waste of money at best, and quite dangerous if you follow their advice.

I thought this was written with a VERY heavy hand, and it just wasn't what I was expecting. They really don't give many secrets that are useful to an average pregnant woman, instead focusing on how cute it is that celebrities spend major bucks on everything to make their pregnancy and birth the best it can be. I understood there would be some of that, but UGH. It got old, and the fake chatty nature of the writing was just too much for me.

I wish I could give this book a zero star! With only 15 pages in, it recommends Accutane for acne, stating to "check with your doctor first." Accutane is an ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATION in pregnancy! It has KNOWN and HORRIBLE birth defects of any fetus. In fact, you can't get a Rx unless you have a negative blood pregnancy test and you are on two forms of birth control! This kind of irresponsible writing made me toss the book right then and there-almost. I then kept reading and another suggestion was to try Tetracycline-an antibiotic for acne. Well, again, this is NEVER used is pregnancy because of the teeth discoloration it can have on the fetus-permanently. They also recommend doing laser hair removal-NOT safe in pregnancy! I am furious with this book because there might be some women who actually want and do these suggestions which are NOT safe for pregnancy!!! (P.S. - I actually know what I'm talking about in terms of the safety of these suggestions in pregnancy, I'm a PA, not just some "holistic" person who's againts Western medicine.)

So, I might be a teensy bit biased. Why? Because I'm interviewed in the book (Chapter 2, starting on page 47). So I will leave my part out. This great little tome is a collection of every bit of information that Kym and Cindy could pack in. They don't have an agenda, other than sharing information, so there's info in here for organic types as well as Prada wearers. In fact, if you're a Prada-wearing granola girl, you'll be good to go.
The best part is their liberal sprinkling of experts from other fields with mothers of all stripes. Find someone or something that piques your interest? Follow up with that person's website or phone number. It's a great little directory.
In addition, you'll find some surprising insights and moving stories, when you least expect it. Think of it like a mini Whole Earth Catalog for stylish mommies.

I have three children and I really wish this book was written when I was pregnant! What a fun, informative, helpful, useful book of secrets! I think I'm going to try some of them anyway! This is going to be my new favorite gift for my pregnant friends; infact, I gave this yesterday to my friend at her baby shower, and it was the hit of the party!
Thanks for writing such a wonderful book, pregnant or not it is wonderful!
looking forward to many more titles!

Kym, saw you on Ellen this week and you were amazing!

My friend had a baby boy a year ago and I gave her this book since she wants to have another baby. She loved the information about being a "mompreneur" and Tasty Baby! Another hit in the trilogy.

After seeing Kym on Ellen in a bathtub full of wine, its good to know you can use wine for soft skin since you can't drink it when you're pregnant.

If you loved the other Black Books, this is a great one for a baby shower present - especially for new mommies who don't want to give up on being fabulous. I've bought every Black Book of Hollywood Secrets because they are so much fun to read - and can't wait to see Beauty Secrets II rumoured to be on its way!
