(Glad I waited until this was a free read)
This book is about a man who is really used to getting his way!! Nolen is a millionaire business man who is brought in for an investment opportunity by a former lover.
The former lover wants him to invest in a ballet production so he comes and checks out the auditions. While he is there..Sydney catches his eye!! She is the gorgeous, African-American, women with a body to die for...and he finds her in moment of vulnerability (she doesn't see him)...then he sees her dance. He wants her!!
Love that this is about interracial couple!!
Nolen tries to woo her like he would any other piece...and she is not having it!!
"She wondered if his broad shoulders ever tired of carrying the weight of his ego"
Of course, since she denies him...he wants her more.
So this is about getting over their insecurities and finding a way to make it work.
The relationships in this book are so complicated and I am not talking just about Nolen and Sydney. Also her roommates! They are so different from each other, totally there for each other, and a huge part of the story.
So on to my review. I enjoyed it. Although I can't for the life of me understand why two men supposedly as rich and influential as Nolen and Todd bother to stick around and involve themselves with the drama of Sydney and her roommates. Truth be told Portia was the one that constantly instigated it. but whatever, the men claimed that there was a "connection" or rather, one gets what he wants while the other saw a mirrored tortured soul. Portia did not redeem herself whatsoever even to the end. I still feel off about her as I don't trust her. Ricky was a waste of ink..never felt where he fit in. And Juan/Juanita kept the laughs going. Who doesn't love the flamboyant gay friend!. All in all , while the drama seemed trivial it kept my interest to the very end and unless the author plans on a sequel, Nolen remains a mystery from beginning to end. We only get to scratch the surface of what we can get out of him and that left me as a reader quite frustrated. he's still sexy and swoon worth with his controlling-but-good-intention- personality don't get me wrong , but yea.. frustrated.
