About the Author
Meet the Author From J.G. Piper - I'm very excited to share my new children's picture book "Black Cats get a Bad Rap" with you. I hope you and your children enjoy it for many years. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable process to both write and collaborate with my mother, Linda Apple on this book. I'm currently working on two other children's books that will also be published this year. As a third generation artist I've been blessed to have been immersed in the arts my whole life. I'm a visual artist as well as a writer, so I may both write and illustrate a children's book in the future. For this book though, I felt that my mother's artistic style was a more perfect fit. My journey into the arts began when I was a child. I wrote and illustrated my own original comic books. At age eight I don't think my comics were ready for prime time but it was a start and my love for the arts continued. As I matured into adulthood comic books were replaced with fine art and I worked in the mediums of oil painting, bronze sculpture and photography. About the Illustrator From Linda Apple - As a child I dreamed of working for Disney. But as I got older and entered college, influences steered me down the path of fine arts. That dream has definitely stayed with me and has influenced my artwork over the years. Many of my pieces have an innocent and whimsical quality to them and people throughout my life have told me I should have been a children's book illustrator. I've always had an interest in illustrating a picture book but never sought out a writer or felt comfortable writing it myself. I'm delighted to have the chance to collaborate with my son and illustrate the black cats for his first book "Black Cats get a Bad Rap". I used to live next door to Ms. Apple and her paintings delighted me then and still do to this day. The color, the detail and the whimsy!! The verses are fun and my daughter enjoys them too.
Our favorite page is the the kitten tangled in yarn. "I'm a black cat who lays in spun yarn. It's just a cat nap, don't sound the alarm."
Lily and I BOTH are enjoying this wonderful book more each time we read it.
Every page made me smile. It was fun to read to my nieces and they loved it.
