The main character is a underdog, after all he has no magic compared to the rest of the magic based world. He does though, have a ability to make up for it if he learns and works to use it better. He is silly, a little bit of a dork, but he is and can be very serious where it is needed. He works hard and earns his strength, you see the characters grow and master their skills. Basically, he is a silly guy that seriously works hard and he is actually a calm and smart character. He is not just a idiot that charges straight in like Naruto. If things do not work out, he figures out what he is doing wrong, or figures out a weakness to exploit. I really like his character, basically the same can be said about his rival.
It reminds me of Naruto; Quality and possibly long lasting potential that is. Appropriate for kids, yet hides in more mature and dark material that adults would be more familiar with as well. The darker stuff is done in a way that you get the point more if your a adult, but not too gruesome that it would be bad for kids.
The art is fantastic, and I do not really think there were many, if any, translation issues. Personally, I did not notice any. It is worth every penny.
The art is simply exquisite. I find myself admiring the art in EVERY page which is something new to me. The creator pays attention to little and big details, so much so that you can clearly picture each scene in your mind.
The story is great. You have a mixture of mystery, comedy, drama, and action. You also can't help but fall in love with the characters as well. Even the royals are funny, despite their "high horse"/prideful personality. In fact, that personality is what makes them loveable. Every knight has the desire to protect the people of the country they're living in, and they do their job extremely well. In addition, the creator never forgets the story and strays away from its plot, giving the story a strong foundation and backbone.
Asta, the MC, doesn't have magic. To make up for that, he trains his body so hard so that he can be strong and become Wizard King. Meanwhile, his rival and best friend/family, Juno is naturally talented at magic. They're not enemies, and they always get excited when they come across each other's path. When one becomes stronger, the other is genuinely excited for him and wants to get stronger too. No hate, just love! HOW REFRESHING!!!!
What I love most is that the manga doesn't just focus on one character's growth. It takes into consideration all characters, and gives them equal attention. It doesn't put too much emphasis on rivals as it also focuses on building bonds, teamwork, and surpassing your limits.
I am currently on Volume 7, and I still have a hard time putting it down!
Thank you Tabata-sensei for this blessing of a gem!
This is funny too, I laughed out loud a lot while reading this, I honestly think the humor is better suited for the manga than it is animation. I seriously thought everything about this was better than the anime, if you like the anime even a little bit, I highly suggest checking out the manga. I had no idea what I was missing, and I regret having slept on the manga for so long. This might be my favorite volume 1 out of all the more recent shonen manga I’ve read, and I’ve read almost all of them. I’m going to place an order for 2-25 so I can catch up to current volumes/chapters, looking forward to the later arcs!
