First I must say that I hate Black and Decker, products always break, but I gave this guy a try from the TR1600 and TR1800 review's, I agree from going to HD and Lowe's that Black and Decker's are solid, all other brands I you can see they are flimsy, wasn't sure why there were very few reviews on the 16inch and it is only 29.95?, I am sure its the same beast just different length, yet if anyone knows else wise please post, first suggest get as long of a blade as you can afford, I would have upped for the 17inch, Ok its solid! Cuts great! Seems like sharp blades and a strong motor! The only neg, is the locking button, but this might have been designed as such for safety? Overall 5 stars, 29.95 with free ship is a great deal for a solid cutting beast, very happy cant go wrong! It clawed through thick twigs and cut leaves very clean, B D if this cutter doesn't break in 3-5 yrs I will consider coming back after 15 years! I do see you know how to make trimmers! Just lets see about reliability?
I used this Black & Decker Hedge Trimmer for less than 20 times since I purchased from Amazon on May 7, 2008, and it just stopped working on November 14, 2009.
This trimmer has worked ok. I would have preferred a hedge trimmer that would cut larger branches. Not a fault of the product. I just chose one too small.
I would recommend this product. I have a lot of underbrush that has been slowly taking over my yard. With the Black and Decker 17 inch hedge trimmer, I am taking my yard back. Thank you Amazon! Great price for a great product!
I purchased this because I thought it would be easier to do an even, neat trim than with a manual trimmer. It was.....as long as it worked. I have one shrub which is about 14' x 3' which I trim twice a year so basically it worked long enough to be out of warranty before it started screwing up. The fourth time I used it (the second time in the second year)it began to "cut out". I managed to get the job done and put it away until this the third year. I've just walked back in the house after hassling with it for the last ten minutes and finally giving up. It was obvious there was a bad connection somewhere so I decided it was time to take it apart and do what Black and Decker should have done at the factory, i.e., make a connection that is reliable enough to last for years rather than one which begins to fail after a couple of hours of use. Now what do I discover?! It's not put together with Phillips screws, which would have worked fine. No, one has to have a star wrench. No problem, I think. I have a tip that works with my 1/4" drive socket. Big problem! The tip isn't long enough to reach most of the screws, and the socket the tip fits in is too large to go into the recessed holes where the screws are. Now I have to buy a regular screwdriver with the star tip. Or maybe not. I bought this trimmer to make things easier. It's looking at this point like it would be easier to just buy a manual trimmer, cut the hedge, and be done with it. If Black and Decker didn't care enough to make this trimmer reliable from the factory, why should I spend my time fixing their piece of junk!
