I have already recommended this to some of my friends, and I found out about it from another scouter friend who has the Orbit model (I like that this Voyager has the flashlight that can illuminate under the unit).
A few weeks after I picked up my original Black Diamond Voyager, I used it the first night of the fishing/camping trip my brother and I do annually. While he was messing around with his Coleman lantern, I had instant light. The Voyager has just as much useable light, and it's completely silent. No more dealing with fuel, a fire hazard, the danger of kids getting burned, broken globes, the loud hiss, or burner mantles that seem to tear no matter how much you season them or how gently you handle the lantern. Just take out the Voyager and turn it on. The batteries seem to last forever, and it's very lightweight and compact--suitable for backpacking. My brother was so impressed he bought a Voyager a couple weeks after the trip. Neither one of us have used Coleman lanterns since.
Some people prefer the Black Diamond Apollo. It's a very similar lantern. As such I'm sure it works well, but it doesn't have the dual functionality of the flashlight on the bottom like the Voyager. I rarely use the Voyager just as a flashlight, but I do use the bottom light all the time in addition to the lantern mode when it's hanging in the tent or up under the picnic canopy. With both modes on, you get a combined 125 lumens with the flashlight side shining down on a table to prepare dinner, play cards, clean fish, or whatever else you have going on. When used in this fashion it provides very functional light. Also, the Voyager doesn't have those goofy folding legs to get bent or broken. The Voyager doesn't need legs--it's very stable when sitting on any kind of surface due to the rubberized feet that are molded into the body.Read more ›
Pros: battery gauge, collapses that prevents accidental activation and halves the size, great battery life thanks to the use of any AA batteries ( I use rechargable Sanyo Eneloops) and a fully adjustable one button dimmer switch, rubberized base, flashlight integrated (very floody), durable, nice even light from frosted globe, great stainless double hook for hanging, weight with Eneloop batteries 8.4 oz, reasonable price.
Cons: trying to think of one.
Better light transmission than a 3 D cell Rayovac Sportsmans lantern.

This is kind of the neatest thing we've purchased in a long time. I expected it to be a high quality lantern/flashlight based on other reviews. Read morePublished 1 day ago by OpKsGirl
This lantern stopped working correctly after only two backpacking trips. If you turn it on, it'll come on for about 30 seconds and then stops working. Very annoying! Worthless!Published 2 months ago by Backpacker
Works well for what I've needed it for. It collapses down pretty small and is very bright.
It has two folding rings on the top to hang in a tent, but I can't imagine... Read more
Very nice, light and versatile. Black Diamond stuff is almost always spot on.Published 4 months ago by Amazon Customer
Great little lantern/flashlight, illuminates a wide area and is easily clipped inside a tent or on a line. Plenty of light, dimmable, doubles as a flashlight.Published 5 months ago by David Fisher
The light is awesome and can even dim, and the lantern part with the flash light amazing, but the hooks on top can be a real nerve bender when in a quick problem.Published 7 months ago by Amazon Customer
Tiny but effective (phrasing) and the dual clips on top are great for hanging in a tent. For those that skimmed past the dimensions, the picture shows it next to a 32oz... Read morePublished 8 months ago by KOS
