Got these because I started experiencing severe knee pain last year after hiking for many years on my descent down White Mountain hikes. The compression in the knees from "stepping down" on descents started to become excruciatingly painful and being a strong believer in carrying as little weight as possible, I bought these. They are incredibly light, compact and does the job. A typical hike would be about 7-8 miles total on a 3,500-4,000 footer. While I've just recently used these twice this summer, I can say that the level of pain at on descent has decreased dramatically to the point where I'm not dying of pain. The pain still comes, but's it's at about 20% of the pain level I would have experienced otherwise. To me,that makes this pole investment a must. Perhaps I'll try wearing knee supports - maybe that'll bring it down to 10%.
These z poles are easy to put together and lock in place.THey fold up into a small package, all while being very lite. The grips are very comfortable ( just hiked over 8 hours with no blisters in very humid/wet conditions), I like the size for a large size hand. The straps(when worn properly) work very good to help reduce the load and stress on your wrists. These poles did make a little more noise that poles others were using in terms of creaking but nothing unacceptable.
