***Update 8/20/2016**** This headlamp has proved itself to be so incredibly valuable and dependable that I am going to add a video tutorial of its functions. I hope the video helps you get a better idea of what this headlamp is capable of and gives you confidence in purchasing decision!
Both lights have a high power Main LED (dimmable on Spot, fixed on Vizz), secondary low power white LED (dimmable on both models), and red led (dimmable on both models).
The Main LED is very focused on both with brightness approximately the same. The Spot has can dim it’s main light which is great.
The Vizz has very focused beams on all of its light modes. The SPOT has a focused main LED and the secondary LED and Red LED are nicely diffused.
Both are similar in weight and feel. The Spot has a battery metter (high, med, low), while the Vizz will alert of low battery.
Overall pick: Black Diamond Spot. Dimmable and properly diffused red light and low power LED.
It's not the most ultralight and minimalistic option but it's perfect for what I need on outdoor adventures.
I had to do alot of searching before I bought this headlamp to find the specs on burntime and I ended up finding a user manual and when I saw the posted numbers I got excited. We'll the first day at hour 5 when it shut down on me, I unfortunately found out those numbers have to be a misprint.
The case is well made and has a rubber textured feel. Strap is easy to adjust and the angle is easy to tilt without ripping the light off of your head. Battery indicator is a nice feature, and it only stays on for a few seconds, which is great. I had another headlamp and it had the battery meter on the bottom, so it always had the indicator light shining in your eyes... just stupid.
The spot light is pretty bright on high, that is pretty common for all headlamps these days, but what is really special is the little white light that is in the top left hand corner. Two clicks of the button turns just this light on. This little white led is nice for close work. It shines a near perfect 180 degree beam of soft white light. There are no no lines or shadows visible... just perfect light. Not too bright though, I would say it casts usable light probably 6 feet out. It's a really nice feature so you don't blind yourself working up close.
I have not owned it for very long so I cannot comment on the battery life or durability, but it is waterproof and seems to be built better than any of the 20 to 30 dollar ones in the big box store... and I've owned them all.
