Black-Eyed Susans are easy to grow and are long-lasting and lovely to behold, especially if mixed in with shasta daisies and purple coneflowers. First till the soil to a depth of about 2 inches. Get out any grass, as this will compete with the seeds for water. Distribute the seeds over the tilled soil and gently rake it in. Now water every day to keep the ground moist and start germination. Everyday watering is necessary to ensure the plants get a good start and get the roots established. Once the green shoots emerge, keep watering every other day to promote growth. These will likely bloom the first year planted if planted early enough. Once established, Black-Eyed Susans will spread naturally. They bloom in mid-summer and the blooms last for upwards of weeks at a time. They top out at about 24 inches tall. A field of these intermixed with other daisies and coneflowers is a sight to behold!

What a great deal. These seeds were terrific. They came up quickly and in great abundance. I had many more flowers than I had expected and have thinned them and replanted the thinnings. Then I still had plenty of seeds for a second planting.

Terrible germination rate. I did all my homework on planting black eyed susans from seed, and got just 2 seedlings from this whole packet. Now I'm crossing my fingers that those two make it to bloom.
