A few months ago I was watching an interview with K’wan (I think it was TVONE… you know… the place where Black life unfolds?) and he said something to the effect of “I don’t mind being called a street writer but I think being called a crime writer is what best describes me.”

And that’s what this book is. Crime-fiction.

Savage crime-fiction. The prologue sets the stage, and if you aren’t ready or haven’t read one of K’wan’s books yet… consider this your warning. ‘Black Lotus’ is the story of revenge. Who is doing it and for what reason is the meat for this book. It took me all of one second to like Lone Wolf. That’s not the name is mama gave him but it is the name he goes by.

Wolf is a renegade cop who does things his way. The man gets results but he usually ends up pissing everyone off in the process. That’s fine with him because he prefers working alone and doesn’t suffer fools easily. Confrontation is his aphrodisiac and he has the appetite of a nymph.

But what IS this case? What does the Black Lotus want? Wolf works narcotics, so why was he pulled into a homicide investigation? Maybe… because of the crimes themselves. There are few immoralities worse than the sexual abuse of a child, and most of us are powerless to do anything about it except rely on the inept and incompetent court system.

But what if you didn’t have to wait? What if you had the power, the means, and the murderous purpose to make it so? Would you do it? Someone is and they mete out punishment that is bloody, ferocious, cold-blooded, and final. I know I should have been rooting for the good guys, but… well… I think in order for me to do that, I first have to determine who the good guys are!

K’wan writes a story that reads very fast and very entertaining. I was halfway done before I realized I was halfway done. It’s a shame that not enough people know about K’wan. But if he keeps writing like this, that will change.

While I enjoyed the storyline and the tie in to Priest and Animal revealing more about the origins. I was very disappointed with the size of the book (almost the size of my small KJV holy Bible. I thought the page count was very short for a K'wan Novel and they were trying to save some trees. I kind of felt ripped off when it arrived until I read the storyline. K'wan is a great author, but if these little bitty book format is the wave of the future his publishers are planning to use, then I am out. Regular price for a tiny shortened page book(let).

Story was good, overall packaging sucked!

The only reason I gave 4 stars is because I wanted the story to be longer.

He definitely has the gift of writing.

Great story line....I love Khallah!!!

It's a must read!

This killer thriller shows the magnitude of K'wan. Police vs Police, Police vs Urban Legends & Police vs Faith. Detective Wolf has his hands full with Black Lotus while things seem to get ugly for a puzzle missing pieces. The author masterfully solves murder and unsolved murders with this shocker. My only wish is that I had more pages to turn. That's the only reason 1 star is missing.

This is the BEST crime drama I have read in a very long time. This author is a true crime novelist! From start to finish, I was reeled in and hooked. This book had corruption, secret societies, avenging angels and justice. When a web of lies and deceit are woven to cover an injustice committed against the innocent, the Lord does indeed hear the pleas and cries of the ones who are left suffering from the loss and his wrath will be swift in the form of an unmerciful avenging angel wielding a mighty sword. The unrighteous owe a debt that can only be satisfied in blood, so the day of reckoning is upon them. The ritualistic style killings; the mystery of the brotherhood; the ungodly secrets of the church; and a conspiracy so corrupt and tainted, can all be found in this book. So if you are one who likes to sit on the edge of suspense, this book is definitely for you. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm hoping that this will be a crime serial as Black Lotus has me hooked! K'wan has proved without question that he is very deserving of the title of a true crime novelist! Readers, I highly recommend this book! Kudos to the author on an excellent piece of work!

I liked the book. It was a decent read. However, the book really treated the Black Lotus as a secondary character. Also, I thought the book would provide more insight on her or the Brotherhood, but it was told a great story about one of her exploits. It isn't a bad read at all.. It's a very good book, it just wasn't what I had in mind.

There isn't a book or short story I've read by this man that I have not liked. This was a typical K'wan book, strong story line, enjoyable read, suspense & gruesome murder. There were appearances by familiar characters Brown, Alvarez, Priest & of course Kahllah. We were introduced to Black Lotus in Animal II. I couldn't wait to read more about her when I saw this book was being released. I wish it had been more about her. I enjoyed Wolf too & his character's balance of being from the street vs his profession. Would love to see another book about him, her and call me crazy but I could imagine a love story between the two of them. I'd recommend this book to any K'wan fans, crime fans & street Lit fans. I only gave it 4 stars bc it was so short. I didn't realize when I ordered it that it was only 158 pages. It's labeled as a Novella. I was disappointed, I wanted more. Also the timing of this book confused me some. It seemed to go back & be taking place before Animal II by the mentioning of Priest.
