A special shout out to Paul Tavares who wrote the chapter on the Agile project management solution. I implemented his solution on my company SharePoint site and it has been eagerly embraced. I never could have created anything like it on my own. Thanks a bunch, Paul.
Whilst most of the content of "Black Magic Solutions for White Hat SharePoint" is targeted at the 2010 version of the SharePont platform the techniques used are solid enough and platform agnostic enough to be reused in both the new 2013 and the 'old' 2007 environments.
One of the aspects I liked most about the book is the combination of material; there's good 'getting started' basics, some useful best practices for a long term approach to what has been coined as 'middle tier SharePoint development' and, excellent real-world worked through implementations.
The zone this book inhabits means it is useful (and I would argue vital) reading material for the super/power user SharePoint customizer and the full-on SharePoint developer alike, SharePoint can be a frustrating environment to development solutions in as there often many ways to meet any particular set of requirements, what this book does is give you guidance on how best to approach one of those solution routes and show you just how powerful a set of tools the middle tier can give you.
The solution also helps to make SharePoint sexy and fancy ;-)
