Such suffering breeds contempt for the government they once served and bled for. All too often they are 2nd class citizens in their own country while politicians reward "undocumented immigrants", illegal migrants, who pay no taxes, break laws and exploit the system, for political power.
The vets are used up and no longer of value, discarded rubbish.
Such men have skills: skills in organizing destruction, killing, terror and mayhem; once they were servants of the republic, now wishing to destroy the same and to walk away with their "share" of the war profits the novel explodes with action and intrigue as an elite group of vets battle international mobsters and the government.
A good, if chilling, read.
Starts off a bit slower than Patterson's other books, but is certainly current, as this could happen tomorrow.

The story has more twists and turns than a plate of pasta.
One small negative, the hero is yet another father on many, with a dead life and a heroine looking after the kids...this must be his 3rd character repeat.
