On "Black Moses", Isaac Hayes is at the height of his musical powers. He takes some classic song material and makes it his own, exploding the compositions, laying them out with confident care, and delivering to you the sort of soul that takes its time to good effect. Along with amazing re-intetrpretations, this album also features "Ike's Rap II", which was sampled on Portishead's track, "Glory Box". This isn't the only Isaac Hayes album you should own, but it's one of them... if you count yourself as a soul fan.

My grandmother got me this album since it was on sale at some point during the 1970s. The LP has an interesting design which features the cover picture in sort of a tripartite structure. My grandma soon regretted this purchase and began to develop an active dislike for "Black Moses." This may in part be due to the fact that I played this album to death. I recently re-discovered it and remembered why I liked it so much: about 90% of Ike's covers are great and delivered in his inimitable soulful way. Even though most songs are associated with other artists, Ike brings his unique approach to each one of them. And he seems to shun recording songs that are less than eight minutes long. So if you like a lot of Ike and tales of "good love gone bad," do yourself a favor and buy this doggone good album!

I bought the Black Moses album 26 years ago; I lost the album about seven years after I bought it in 1972. Twenty-six years later I purchased the CD and it's still awesome. "Black Moses" is a genuine masterpiece! Isaac Hayes is only one of his kind...very soulful, well organized with articulated vocals like no other. I will never lose such a classic again out of my collection. Isaac Hayes, my brother, I solute you now and always!

Currently downloading this classic music from my memory banks and from Amazon. I won't regale you with tales of listening to what was, for in this age, it can still be so to speak, regarding the beautifully soulful experience that was and is Isaac Hayes during his most productive period. This quartet featuring: "Hot, Buttered Soul", "The Isaac Hayes Movement"," ...To Be Continued" and the aforementioned "Black Moses" are the epitome of what is "Soul Music"! (Not to forget the crossover 'wa-wa' of the Shaft soundtrack which most in the universe have partaken musically. Or should have...!)

Here on the last day of 2014 I challenge any who have not yet tasted (or re-discovered) these delectably digitized dramas of diverse duration; you are herewith informed (reminded) to delve right in with any or all of these musical masterpieces and drift away on the breeze of these beats with your favorite lady in tow for nights and days of endless enjoyment. But I don't know what I'm talking about; I only know what I feel, and I feel just fine listening to these tunes. And I believe...so should thee and thou... this New Year's Eve.

The first time I heard this album, it was playing in an Army PX. I was so mesmerized by the sound, I bought the album and the stereo it was playing on. I just had to have the totality. I just wore that poor vinyl out until the needle wobbled in the grooves. Nobody can enhance a song like Mr. Hayes. His arrangements are stupendous. How can a person imagine the interactions of so many insturments? If you are a soul music fan, this is the quintessential album; and before you know it you will have bought many more of his albums. The Hayes 'Wall of Sound'(sorry Phil Specter), there really is nothing like it. Barry White is a pauper in comparison.

Damn! When the sax comes in at the climax (no pun intended)of "Help Me Love" you just have to take your lover in your arms and dance. This is just one of so many brilliant moments to be found in the two sprawling discs of "Black Moses." Isaac Hayes' orchestrations and musical conceptions transcend any notion of the 1970s or "soul music" for that matter. The much-sampled "Ike's Rap" movements deserve special mention as well. You need this in your life.

I've enjoyed the cassette version of this great album since it's release. Listening to it on CD further proves that this is one of THE seminal recordings of the 70s. The remastering is excellent bringing out details in the orchestra and arrangements that reveal what a supreme talent Ike was in addition to his superior vocals. I highly encourage anyone even remotely interested in wanting to know where Barry White and other subsequent "soul singers" found their roots, this is a recording to consider buying. You won't be disappointed!
