Starring Breno Mello and Marpessa Dawn, Black Orpheus won the Palme dOr at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival and the following years Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Equally memorable was the soundtrack album, which featured the music of two of Brazils top composers, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa. Two of the tracks, Manha De Carnaval and Samba Of Orpheus attracted considerable attention at the time of release (1959) and have since become acknowledged as bossa nova classics. The album also features the vocals of Agostinho dos Santos, who dubbed the singing part of Bren Mello.
