This story is full of action, drama and suspense. I had to stop reading a calm my heart. This story was well researched and written with gray African culture references. The author wrote about a young child witnessing a tragic event in her life and trying her best to live on the best way she can., until she is thrust in the path of her kidnapper Jagger and his lifestyle. She could see the underlying goodness in him and was determined for him to see it in himself. To Jag, she was his uthando lwami, his love. He did not expect her to have that affect on him. She was forbidden to touch but they both could not help themselves.
If you action packed romances, this is the story for you!
Jagger is tasked with kidnapping a princess who has no idea that she’s royalty, or does she? Problem is, Jagger wants the virgin princess but she’s forbidden for more reasons than one. First rule of the X Member deal is to never sleep with the mark and secondly, she’s a princess, promised to another and if she’s taken it’s punishable by death on both accounts. Mikayla is terrified of Jagger but is strongly attracted to him and wants him in the worst way but some part of her knows it’s wrong to want her kidnapper.
Before Jagger leaves Long Beach he knows something is off with this job and there are a few things that doesn’t add up but can’t seem to put his finger on it. Meanwhile their connection grows stronger and Jagger decides he can’t resist anymore, he will cross the line and so he does.
Mikayla winds up being kidnapped from Jagger and he realizes he’s fallen for her but all the pieces are now falling into place and what he thought was just another job is way more sinister and Mikayla is the innocent victim right in the middle.
Mikayla is a pawn in a much bigger plot that was orchestrated about 20 years ago and she has an idea of who she is but it’s so traumatic she refuses to acknowledge or remember it. Meanwhile, Jagger also realizes that it’s an elaborate scheme to also take him down so it’s a race against time to uncover the truth on all fronts and protect his love.
Will they be able to beat the odds because the truth of the matter is, the duties of a Queen does not align with that of a hitman.
This story was just out of this world. Murder, conspiracy, danger and a dark past that haunted Mikayla for much of her younger years. Sexy, raw and just outstanding.
The lovemaking was intense and hot. I love that Jagger had a few first with Makayla. They are really good together. Even though Jagger could not get to kill anyone, they were still great. I also like Trick, I would like to see a story about him. I am Makayla finally gave in to her past so that she could protect her people from her uncle. I am glad that she got stronger too. I think Jagger breaking her heart was exactly what she needed for her people.
Overall, I love the book. I think Amarie did a great job, although the ending was bit ended a bit short. I hope there is a part 2 or at least a short novel of the relationship with Jagger and Mikayla.
