TED DEKKER is a New York Times bestselling thriller author. Heralded as a "master of suspense" by Library Journal, Dekker has sold millions worldwide, establishing himself as one of the most widely recognized author brands.
He began his career writing fantasy novels that explored spirituality (Black, Red and White) and has since become a major force in the mainstream fiction arena with his recent thrillers, "Adam," "Thr3e," "Skin," "Obsessed," "BoneMan's Daughters," which landed in the #10 on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list in 2009, and "The Bride Collector". Dekker has been honored with a Christy Award as well as a Gold Medallion Award for Best Fiction. "Thr3e" and his novel "House" became feature films.
Dekker was born to missionaries and grew up among cannibals of Indonesia, and his peculiar upbringing gives him a unique perspective outside the cultural bubble, allowing him the freedom to share provocative insights in his fiction. After leaving Indonesia, Dekker graduated from a multi-cultural high school and took up permanent residence in the United States, earning his B.A. in philosophy and religion, and then went into business.
In the early nineties, Dekker decided to pursue his desire to write fiction, selling his company, moving his family to the mountains of western Colorado, and writing full-time. Two years and three books later his first novel, a supernatural thriller called Heaven's Wager, was published. Dekker proceeded to write 6 more supernatural thrillers, rising to the top of many bestsellers lists and earning himself critical acclaim and legions of fans. "Thr3e" heralded his launch into mainstream fiction and was followed by "Obsessed," "Skin," "Adam," and "BoneMan's Daughters," all of which hit the New York Times bestseller list.
Ted Dekker's fans are comprised of readers of all ages, backgrounds, and belief systems who love his compulsively readable stories, authentic characters, and universal and relatable themes that he explores from a unique point of view.

The Circle Series by Ted Dekker tells the tale of Thomas Hunter, a 25-year old living in Denver, Colorado. While coming home from work one night, he is struck in the head by a bullet by someone who was chasing him. Blackness engulfed him, and Thomas dreamed and his world would never be the same. He learns in his dreams/alternate reality that a virus dubbed the Raison Strain is about to be unleashed upon the world. In the other world, a crisis has occurred as well that threatens the stability of that world. And throughout the series, Thomas' realization that both realities are connected begins to grow as he sees that one reality influences the other. And his survival in one depends on his survival in the other.
This series is one that I would consider groundbreaking. I was never a fantasy fan, but went into the series, not expecting it to be one about the fall and redemption of mankind. I loved how this series told the story of our own biblical history through the use of an alternative reality. Black tells a story similar to that of the Garden of Eden and the fall of mankind. Red tells the tale of how life was under Jewish law. White describes how life is for people who accept God's gift of grace and how it is for those who reject it. And finally Green, which seemed to depict the time of the Tribulation and the end times. Among these books, mix in a story about a virus that will infect the entire planet, and the one man who can stop it, and you have one thrilling series.
The series does have its minor problems as well. I rather not discuss them since I would spoiler parts of the series for those who haven't read it. However, I'm glad Green is placed at the end of this 4-in-1 volume and with an alternate ending. The alternate ending, which I preferred gave closure to the series, whereas the original ending made the series circular and never-ending. In my opinion, Green really should be read last since it takes place 10 years after White, thus containing spoilers from the other books. I know Dekker had originally intended for it to serve as both a prequel and sequel (with the original ending), but I think it's best read as a sequel. And for being Thomas Hunter's story, Green seemed to have so little of him, preferring to highlight secondary and new characters instead. The new interview at the end was interesting to read though, as it provided insight into the series and its creation.
All in all, this is one series that has now become one of my favorites. Do yourself a big favor and read The Circle Series. You'll be glad that you did. :)
My biggest problem would have to be the theology of Dekker, he said is an interview:
“Do you believe that humans will retain their humanity in the next life? That is, will they still have a free will? If so, they would still have a choice for evil, yes? Remove that choice and we essentially become like robots in the future. So if evil exists in the next life, will anyone choose it, the way Lucifer first did? I suppose so. And if so, would the event involve another fall so to speak? We don’t know. Perhaps this allegory I’ve penned is closer to the truth than one might think. Then again, probably not.“
We, in glorification do not have the ability to sin, however that doesn’t make us any less free. He is saying we will still have the ability to fall, and so will need to be redeemed again? That’s heresy. So his hyper-Arminianism view of free-will is troubling to me, but as long as you can differentiate between Elyon and the God of the Bible, remember this is a fictional story and not a theological work.
I enjoy how he demonstrated evil and didn’t pull any punches, I was cringing at certain points, but evil is evil and the way he personifies it is excellent.

In light of recent world events, this series seems to have an almost prophetic edge to it. I'm enjoying reading it again more than the first time around.
This book, as all Ted Dekker books I have read, tells a story through religion. The forces of temptation from the devil and the purity of good in God. The choices that people make and how they affect others. Each action and choice Thomas makes has an effect in our universe. When he falls asleep he finds himself back in this universe to fight a global disaster caused by Terrorists. One big question arises, which universe came first?
Thomas has a truly magical adventure with allies in both places as well as enemies. This is a book that creates hope and wonder. It made me glow inside. Pure heaven
